I'm a fan of the volume knob over the rocker style. The only problem is with a portable and pocketable device I have a tendency for the volume to change dramatically taking it out or putting it in my pocket. At almost twice the price, I'm going to wait until my BTR5 dies.

No mention of the Qudelix 5K (except in the description) bought that shit and it's amazing, way cheaper than the BTR5 and this thing. The app is also SUPER extensive with customization it doesn't even use the internet it seems just pairs to your device and you can change settings on the fly without hiccups. Lasts for 10 hours and as long as you get used to the 2 separate rocker system its very easy to use.

"Plastic makes bluetooth work" is the hidden selling point. BTR5's connection goes in and out if it falls behind a pillow or if I walk around at all. It also gets hot if I'm connected to my Shield TV and watch anything for over an hour. I've had it a few months and it died once where I had to factory reset it. Don't undersell the volume knob either, because the rocker is finicky as hell. I'd entertain a side grade with a legit bass boost.

Honestly if you need eq that badly you bought the wrong headphones.
@AliArghavan
@AliArghavan 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidjameswales Every headphone can benefit from EQ. I like to adjust some frequencies just a dB or two to get them right. I mean you can get BTR5 or 5K for less money with many more features. iFi didn't even bother to develop an app for any extra function. So with Go BLU you're forced to buy headphones with exactly the tonal balance you prefer with 0 adjustments.
@Daaell
@Daaell 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidjameswales Ohh yeah, just keep buying stuff until you find something that works. And if you happens to leave in a country where you barely can re-sell your stuff, fuck you. Nothing is prefect, if it is, probably cost $3000+, everything else needs some level of EQ.
@davidjameswales
@davidjameswales 2 жыл бұрын
@@AliArghavan the production of any given song is going to dictate how something sounds more than "a few db here and there". Again, if you don't like the sound of your headphones just sell them. This isn't the 1980's there are literally thousands of genuinely great headphones you won't feel like you have to "fix". Maybe you just like playing with EQ as part of the hobby and that's fine. But pretending all headphones need EQ is from experience far from accurate. Also I 100% agree not having features is stupid, even if I consider EQ up there with MQA personally. At least no one is ruining files on a server with EQ.
@SteveHuffer
@SteveHuffer 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidjameswales I suppose the flip side of what you're saying is that as it's not the 80s, why not add something that, by now is fairly trivial to apply? I'm not an EQ fundamentalist, but I do have presets for classical, soundtrack, etc. in particular. Not saying you're wrong, by the way; I actually think you're largely on the right track to be honest, but as the vast majority of products are not available to test in person, your method does rely heavily on the availability of postal returns.

I've had a Go Blu for a few weeks and love the thing, it sounds great, like a neutral warm. I have been using a BTR5 for several months and I really like it but I prefer the Go Blu. I rarely used the app on the BTR5 so I don't care that this doesn't have one. Battery runtime is impressive, I got 14 hours of loud play using LDAC yesterday. Range is shorter than BTR5 but, I don't need to have my phone far away from me while I listen to music streamed from it.

I just enjoy using those so much more than fiddling with the EQ in the fiio app. For anyone who knows ifi gear the xbass here is much less pronounced than on something like the Zen Dac. One thing I’ll note though is that even with LDAC I can pretty easily hear a difference when on the wire. @@AliArghavan That's untrue. Not all DACs are the same. Different DACs have different characteristics due to different design and circuitry. If you listen to a Burr-Brown DAC in most iFi devices and then listen to a device with an ESS Sabre DAC, like the Qudelix, with the same headphones and can't tell the difference in sound signature, then you're not listening closely enough. I have ear-tested -- not just frequency curves -- numerous portable DACs, and the difference is apparent with critical listening. iFi DAC/amps have a warm "house sound" due to their use of Burr-Brown and Cirrus Logic DAC chips, depending on the model. You must worship at the altar of ASR and Amir, where the numbers from the rig matter more than what your ears hear. I'm not against EQ, but it's not the only answer to changing sound signature. I'd be weary with this. I've had some previous issues with batteries from iFi. They have zero battery charging circuits on the nano BL and they continuously charge over the USB 5V. My battery almost blew up on me when I noticed the device getting extremely hot over time and the blue charging light wouldn't go off. Turned out my USB output voltage was 5.1V perfectly fine, however the charging circuit was charging the battery up to 4.4V. Brought this to iFi's attention as this is their issue and a major flaw in the product. They even sent me off to my supplier to deal with them instead of iFi themselves. Curious to see if there's any charge controller in this.

@Mike Byrne what? You confused me so much. I get the trickle charge thing (which is extremely weird as the charger doesn't really do anything in regards to what it's charging). When you charge anything, the product that's being charged communicates with the charger to send over a certain voltage. That's what happens with all USB quick charging protocols. The trickle charge function you are talking about on Anker power banks is preventing the powerbank itself from turning off automatically for extremely small devices like earbuds that charge below the auto shutdown value of 100ma. It does nothing to prevent a battery from getting overcharged due to zero charging circuitry being built into said device. If the powerbank is giving of 5.1v to the ifi nano BL, it will continue to charge the battery to 4.4v regardless of whether or not you're using trickle charge mode.

@Mike Byrne that's not really the issue. The issue is lack of ANY form of BMS. It shouldn't matter what USB connection you're using. If IFI really cared that much, they'd make sure their products don't turn into bombs because of THEIR lack of product design. Yet they do not. Again the sound was absolutely fine, but the fact they refused to comment on such a big issue is laughable.

Can this be used while plugged into power? I have an old car in which I use the 3.5mm jack on my LG V50, but the phones I will be considering in the future won't have a jack, such as the Pixel 6 Pro.

What the fuck happened to remote buttons. We went from usually nothing in the 90s, to EVERYTHING on the remote dongle in the 00's, to now again back to almost nothing. Button taps to control volume, prev/next track, pause, and it rarely fucking works.

Any reasons not to get this over the Zen Dac for usb use? Aside from i/o options, so based primarily on sound quality.

I just got a zen dac 2 about a week ago, and an external power supply and iPhone camera cable so I could try my phone with it. After getting that and becoming addicted to listening to my music that way, I was going to get the hip dac 2, but ordered this instead. I’ll try and remember to reply when it gets here next week.

@@tonybowen455 they sound pretty similar to me. The go blu has a wider sound stage option as well as the bass boost which does seem to make a little difference in some music. I’m still new to this so can’t really articulate my thoughts. I haven’t plugged my phone into the zen dac since I’ve gotten the blu if that says anything. Still have the zen dac for my pc audio though.

I heard that ifi go blu has higher noise floor than other bluetooth dac. I have Shanling UP5 which has lower noise floor compared to any of my dac amps (xd05 basic / hip dac / zen dac / zen can etc). So I hope Zeos could do a comparison including the Shanling UP5 (But make sure the firmware is updated to 1.6.0)
