I get to interview the owner of a Zero SR/F who has had the bike almost a year now. He explains why he bought a second hand bike and what he thinks of Zero and Davant Bikes, the pros and cons of owning an EV bike and some of the things he has learned owning an electric motorcycle.

Thank you for interviewing the luckiest husband! A recent visit to a close bike Dealer I noticed they have became a Zero Dealer as well. Had different models there. Very interesting and expensive machines, but the new Indian beside them were very expensive. Zero and ev is the wave of future, keep good videos coming.

Yeah, that's a very important point there at the 8:08 mark. It's nice that the apps will tell you where a charger is, but it doesn't tell you if it's WORKING. A very common problem here in the US also - lots of chargers, MANY broken chargers. - Paul, USA

Great video, and an informative interview, a few questions though, how much does the colder weather in the UK affect the battery range, and if the batteries need replacing is it really expensive and therefore financially unfeasible?
@bikerstuff2
@bikerstuff2 Жыл бұрын
I don't know about the temperature, but my bit of the UK ranges between 0 and 25, so it never gets really cold or really hot. The battery has a 5 year guarantee and I would suspect it is a big part of the price of the bike
@bikerstuff2
@bikerstuff2 Жыл бұрын
Gary looked it up. A new battery is £7,799.99 plus fitting. Marc from Marc Travels channel had his replaced.
@PaulBriden
@PaulBriden Жыл бұрын
@@bikerstuff2 In my view It just does not make sense a battery motorcycle. No matter what the warranty is bike batteries will degrade over time like mobile phone batteries. On an older Mercedes Hybrid it is more expensive to replace the battery than the value of the car. The problem is you cannot just drive it and forget the battery, the petrol engine does not function without a functioning battery. All to do with maintaining emissions.

It is all subjective and how you run your life. However, do I want to use an app, look for a place to charge my bike and then have to drink a coffee I really do not want, obviously this adds to cost. It is all fine on a sunny day but on a cold blustery day, no thanks. All your bikes seem to be older models, fine, nothing wrong with that but newer fossil fueled bikes have moved on. We have a 2019 V-Strom 650, ridden sensibly I can see nearly 300 miles to a tank full. One 10 minute stop, pay at the pump and I have 600 miles. We have a 2012 Suzuki Burgman 650 with essentially the same engine. You run the engine with the garage door shut and your choking in 5 minutes, the same garage with the newer 2019 V-Strom you can breathe with the garage door shut and not even notice any fumes. A barometer on how things have moved on. Im my opinion battery works rather then being a novelty for commuters using a scooter to go to work and come back, obviously the owner would have to have a charging point at home and have enough range for the return work journey.
@bikerstuff2
@bikerstuff2 Жыл бұрын
You don't need a charging point at home, as you put it, just plug the bike into any 3 pin mains socket. Watch Marc Travels to see the lead he uses when he charges at his overnight accommodation.
@PaulBriden
@PaulBriden Жыл бұрын
@@bikerstuff2 Correct me if I am wrong, but does it not take a lot longer to charge if you use a 3 pin ?.
@bikerstuff2
@bikerstuff2 Жыл бұрын
Yes. Do it overnight, it is so cheap to charge at home. We worked out a full 14kw charge cost us £2.30
@PaulBriden
@PaulBriden Жыл бұрын
@@bikerstuff2 That does make sense. For a biker who has enough charge to go to their destination and back, subject to battery degradation over time, and the cost of the bike, I believe it works. However, for longer journeys. Take your husband for instance, 4 stops at 20 minutes a time. Say your time is worth £50.00 per hour. then 4 coffees that is around £70.00 plus the cost of charging. It may not cost a lot to charge at home but the ancillary costs and time in my view just do not make it viable. A DSR zero is £17,000, it is just not viable, an expensive toy. Then you think about when you come to sell it. Any normal bike anyone can own it. What seems to be forgotten is there are so many people who live in flats, terraced homes etc who just do not have access to charging or even the facility to plug the bike into the mains. If I still commuted to work I would seriously look at the NIU MQi GT ER 125cc Electric Moped. About the same cost as a Forza 125 which I used to have for commuting. Enough range and not expensive. However, the same applies, when it comes to selling you do not have as wide a market as with a petrol bike. I sold my Honda Forza 125 for top money within 2 days of advertising.
