Kendo : Zero to Shodan is the NEW video series presented by The Kendo Show. The goal of the series to to give complete beginners to Kendo to foundation they need, and to help them on their journey towards the first 'black belt' level of Shodan. Also, it aims to help instructors with lesson content, so that they may work with their students to achieve that goal.
This episode covers the practice swings used in Kendo - including Joge-Buri, Naname-Buri, and Kukan-Datotsu.

Hey there! I really like the content, and the bad examples are really helpful. I have some feedback regarding the video composition. I think it would be helpful to leave the name of the stance or move somewhere on the screen during the demonstration as well (basically at all times). Helps with scrolling to find a particular move :)

Joge-buri with ashi-sabaki is confusing me a little I think. Is this the only instance (during suburi) that you would downswing as the right foot has already been planted? If so, why is it practiced this way and not with the right foot and swing being in unison like with sankyodo shomen uchi?

Suburi is practice wings - Like Joge-Buri, and Naname-Buri. Kukan Datotsu is literally striking the air - it's kind of a type of Suburi ;)

I hear the 45 degree angle in naname-buri often. Can we please correct our collective selves and call it the 20 degrees it actually is? 45 degrees would look absurd to any kendoka.

Actually it should be about 45 degrees - and that is what the ZNKR specifically state - my example in this video is a bit too shallow to be honest.
