Exactly. I absolutely admire subliminal messaging in film and novel. Making something represent a feeling or a prtson represents a presence as if the person is not there and acts like the feeling. Which might not make sense unless you know what I mean. The dog here represents the teamwork of mankind and the loyalty of a friend such as company, make you feel more comfortable alone witha dog rather than no dog. Take I am legend for example, *SPOILERS*... when the dog dies, will smiths character has lost the company and loyalty of a friend. Showing how he is slowly losing control of his mind. Also, in Lord of the Files novel. Piggy (one of the characters) represents civilisation and *SPOILERS* when he dies, the sense of getting rescued anspd civilisation is lost.

1) margot robbie is the queen of accents, 2) how is this sci-fi
@omg9331128 жыл бұрын
stokes288 sci-fi doesnt mean just lasers and spaceships, its about experimental and unproven scientific theories, so anything post-apocalyptic can be sci-fi really.
@FreeVoni8 жыл бұрын
She is really great at accents. I wanna hear her as a Jamaican now.

stokes288 Maybe there is sci-fi in it that they didn't reveal in the trailer. It's not likely but possible. Personally I hate when they reveal everything or the best stuff in the trailer.
@jamesdicale17638 жыл бұрын
stokes288 Its not sci fi its a love triangle based in a post apocalyptic setting so that extreme decisions seem less unrealistic

There's only one guy in the book. Adding a second changes the whole story.
@Wolfintery8 жыл бұрын
AgentWashingtub Yeah, why bother calling it Z for Zachariah? Now it's just a silly love-triangle story.
@08pixiedust8 жыл бұрын
+AgentWashingtub - Interesting. I haven't read the book, but you're right--that's a pretty major change, and I'm typically not a love triangle fan.
@agentwashingtub91678 жыл бұрын
08pixiedust And of course the character that (in the book) tries to rape her and then shoots her in the leg so she can't run away is played by a black guy even though there is no mention of race in the book.
@08pixiedust8 жыл бұрын
+AgentWashingtub - Oh, that's charming. Nothing like adding unnecessary racial conflict to the end of the world. (I thought this was like a middle-school book. I guess not!)
@agentwashingtub91678 жыл бұрын
08pixiedust He's a scientist who was in a bunker when shit went down with his best friend who he shot for trying to leave, then went crazy from being alone. He wanted to repopulate the world with her and thought rape was the best way.

3091181 well said - i never read the book by I don't understand why Hollywood makes it seam like their job is hard - it's honestly an insult to the intended audience. Agreed. Loved this book. I found it to be a really unique, but adapting it like this turns it into some cheap Hollywood drama/love story and completely ruins it. It's about a girl (16 years old) who is surviving in a world that's been destroyed by nuclear war. The dynamic between the two characters and Anne's struggle against Loomis (who she helps nurse back to health, but who turns out to be a dangerous intruder) was really interesting , but it's not anything like a lovestory. Totally not what the book was about.

John did not killed Caleb, he saved him once and save him again when Caleb tried to fall on purpose. He wanted to test how good John was, Caleb did a creepy smirk the second time John was trying to pull him and that means that he understand that John was trustworthy and more deserving than himself. They both moved the piano then Caleb left, he left because John convinced him that he wasn't good for Ann. John was heartbroken after Ann went out to find Caleb so he went to the fountain then jumped. Ann saw him and was sad from what happened (she pushed the glass from the table part). Last part was John's soul watching Ann playing the piano. John looked happy, Caleb unknown, Ann lonely for being alone again. This is how I see what happened.

@TheTamEra068 жыл бұрын
So I just watched this movie and after reading TONS of discussions on the ending (which have a lot of different theories), I've decided this what I think happened.. I do not think John killed Caleb. First off, he saved him twice. Second, Caleb falling would of completely ruined the wheel and everything they built. I think Caleb walked. Ann pushing the glass off the table represents something, and people think it represents Caleb's death, but I think it represents John's suicide. After Caleb walks, he turns the generator on and there's the scene where Ann opens the fridge to find it working, he then goes over to the church and walks past the organ (which is moved to the barn). So with these 2 little things, I feel he's kinda "finished business" for Ann then jumps. The scene in the barn is him in spirit. But what I don't understand is why he would want to die... I haven't read the book though so people who have read the book may have different theories.
@solongsuicide98 жыл бұрын
+TheTamEra06 He wants to die because he knows he's lost his one & only true love, I thought that was obvious. Thanks so much for explanation, the most interesting and accurate I've read & it ties up all the lose ends. P.s Here's something else to add to the plot which I was wondering; Anne & Caleb had unprotected sex, maybe she was pregnant? The film showed no signs of it, but it's an interesting possibility to add to the equation.
@TheTamEra068 жыл бұрын
+Josh James I never thought of that. Another theory people have said is that maybe the movie happens before the book? Maybe she's sad at the end of the movie because she's knows what's coming, and in the book there are only 2 people. He is also a lot more violent towards her. I definitely like a movie that makes you think!
@putrasyah92578 жыл бұрын
I saw this movie twice . After read your comment , i want to see it again at the end of movie...
@sugafreesiena62138 жыл бұрын
elijor says different in a interview check it out. and he doesn't completely save Caleb the second time Caleb was still hanging off the edge. the conversation John claims him and Caleb has before Caleb allegedly leaves didnt even sound right and he couldn't even look Anne in the eye telling it, and it contradicts Caleb saying there was nothing in Anson in the previous scene. think about it why would Caleb risk traveling without food, water, protection or any of his clothes? also Anne ran after him and looked over the valley and Caleb was nowhere in sight.
@chrisfernandez1085 жыл бұрын
I think he did let him fall why was the other dude standing by the ledge when the wheel was done he probably felt the guilt from killing her brother n from killing the guy it look like he wanted to commit suicide

+Vaidas Maldzius He absolutely did kill him. This is made incredibly obvious by the conversation the two have before they finish the water wheel. Loomis says to Caleb that he was never a threat to him while Caleb laughs in his face knowing he's incredibly jealous and lying. Loomis then asks Caleb about that city he was talking about heading to (sorry can't remember the name) and Caleb says that there's probably nothing there anyway and from this Loomis realizes that Caleb isn't going anywhere and the only way to get rid of him is murder.

SPOILER ALERT Caleb left Ann and I'm not sure if Loomis and Ann ended up together. But, it seems like it. This is the most interesting and also the most disappointing movie ever. I was expecting Chris Pine would be Ann's ever after. But, no. 😭😭😭😭

+Angeli Demata Honestly, I'm glad that didn't happen. I love a good subversion in films, and this one made me happy.

+Nandira Shafira time.com/4011974/chiwetel-ejiofor-z-for-zachariah/ here it goes. He even say maybe him and Anne could work it out, or maybe Anne would eventually drive him off the farm; I think that's a clear indication that mr loomis is deeply flawed, and Anne could realize this and grow tired of him. Let's not forget mr loomis murderous past, he has a dark, insecure, controlling, violent side. It's very clear when you ask yourself why would Caleb just leave? No food, no water, no protection, no clothes like that's easy to come by in a radioactive environment. The look on mr loomis face at the end isn't heartbreak, but guilt. I find it odd he contemplates suicide the exact and final way we see Caleb in.

Just saw the movie.. I could say it was brilliant.. if you're quite of a thinker you would like this movie.. it's the type of movie which would lead you straight to the google search right after finshing.. if you're just watchers who only prefer fast pase & straight forward storyline..you should just ignore & move on to another movies... there's debate about how the story is the different from the book,even just by watching through the trailer,changes from 2 to 3 characters are the most spot-on.. but for me,I like it that it totally went to another path from the original..but stay to the concept of the original as people would keep trying to find the differences anyway.. these changes brings a second & different experience from the concept..the book is more to a thriller..but the movie is quite a mind bender

The whole film literally revolved around building a wheel (pun intended). In what way does this class as a sci-fi. Still a good movie nonetheless.
