***** I'm talking of the cadence of elite milers. This is something like a 4:30 per mile pace if not under.

Yeah, 4:27! I know guys that can run under 5:00 for a half and have done it at 5:10s myself, but 4:30 range is just too nuts for me to even fathom as possible. I'll take that pace for a 5k, let alone a damn half marathon.

It helps that he is only 5' 3", a little short even for African distance runners. At that point, I imagine that having a high cadence (but slightly shorter stride also) comes a to more naturally even at a distance like the half.

All Zersenay did on this day was run a 27:40 10-K, which, if it were done on the track, would meet the highest qualifying standards for 10000 meters at the most recent Olympics and World Championships. Then he ran another one. Then he decided to keep up that pace for another kilometer after that. 58:23...what a time.

@MySonOfSam Don't stress about it, ideal cadence varies greatly from runner to runner. Some people like Tadese here have a very high cadence of 210, whereas other great runners like Lawi Lalang have a lower cadence of less than 180. Cadence is really only an issue if your cadence is extremely low and your "jumping"/"hopping" between strides.

Yea, I would definitely agree. Obviously it's a very efficient stride for him (and clearly successful) but it's very quick and looks a little jerky, especially with his "busy" upper body. On a different note, I'm not sure I would call any of the above "flaws". It may not be a "classic" graceful stride like a Seb Coe or Bernard Lagat but it's pretty hard to argue with a 58:23.

@huyiy His cadence is "unusually super high". Between 1:20 and 1:40, I counted 35 strides, which would equate to 105 strides per minute. He keeps roughly the same pace throughout this video and seemingly the entire race. As I'm sure you know, 90 strides a minute is an average among professionals.

All that, but the power he has for each step is staggering.. on top of that, his cadence is up to like ~200steps/minute.. insane! He just doesn't spend that much time on the ground with each step, and that's what really matters

agreed the 27: 43 opening 10k stands by itself ------the guy commenting on this as a stand alone world class 10K time tho? ----needs to become aware of Kenesia Bekele's 26: 17-------not to mention his 12: 37 5K which is only a couple seconds short of 3 back to back 4:00 miles ! {oh well Sir Roger !!!}----Daniel Komen ran sub -8:00 twice in the 2 mile{ 7:58 & 7: 55 @1600} and also a 12: 39 5K & the greatest distance mark on the books for over 20 years now -----his 7:20 3K ----no one has come remotely close except himself indoors at 7: 24!!!!!------so all these runners mentioned are in a super rarified place orders of magnitude beyond even " normal " world class runners----who by comparision are rather pedestrain. ...... back to training.........

Look at him breaking this world record from Samuel Wanjiru 58'33". I hope he will run the London Olympic marathon. Because at 10000 there will be Bekele who stays behind him all the time like in Berlin (Tadese paced like a dozen of laps). Like Mo Farah bekele has a very fast final lap. So for Tadese it could be only bronze. But this record would not been set when he didn't run against Bekele alll the time. No pain no gain!!!!!
