#Bakzeil : een Plastic Avengers campagne
De plastic-toeslag dreigt afgeschaft te worden met het nieuwe kabinet. De op 1 juli 2023 ingevoerde taks heeft als doel het gebruik van wegwerpplastic terug te dringen. In de praktijk is er verwarring, lijkt de taks niet te werken en is er voor ondernemers een toegenomen administratieve last.
In plaats van afschaffen pleiten wij voor een slimmere plastic taks. Een die wél werkt. Bovendien zien we dat voor een heel aantal verpakkingen de plastic-vrije alternatieven al gebruikt worden. Denk aan patat- en snackbakjes of deksels en ijsbakjes.
Wij roepen mensen op om foto’s te maken van op straat rondslingerende TO-GO voedselbakjes: van patatbakjes tot wok-dozen. Van voorverpakte sandwich triangels tot sushi-boxen. Van saladebakken tot yohurtbekers.
Daarmee willen we onderzoeken hoeveel van de bakjes in het zwerfafval plastic bevatten. Welke verhouding er is tussen voorverpakte TO-GO producten en verse TO-GO bakjes en de verhouding TO-GO in het zwerfafval in het algemeen.
We hopen aan de hand daarvan aanbevelingen te kunnen doen om de plastic-toeslag aan te scherpen. Want als er alternatieven zijn voor TO-GO plastic, waarom verbieden we dan niet het origineel? En als er geen alternatieven zijn, waarom zetten we de plastic-toeslag dan niet in om instrumenten als statiegeld, hergebruik of herontwerp te stimuleren?
Want de plastic toeslag moet niet afschaft maar aanscherpt. Laat het nieuwe kabinet Bakzeil halen.

The plastic surcharge is at risk of being abolished with the new government. The tax, introduced on July 1st, aims to reduce the use of disposable plastic. In practice, there is confusion, it seems ineffective, and there is an increased administrative burden.
Instead of abolishing it, we advocate for a smarter plastic tax. One that does work. Moreover, we see that plastic-free alternatives are already being used for many packaging items. Think of french fry and snack containers or lids and ice cream containers.
We urge people to take photos of TO-GO food containers littering the streets: from french fry containers to take-out boxes. From pre-packaged sandwich triangles to sushi boxes. From salad containers to yogurt cups.
With this, we want to investigate how many of these containers in litter contain plastic. What is the ratio between pre-packaged TO-GO products and fresh TO-GO containers, and the overall ratio of TO-GO items in litter.
We hope to make recommendations based on this information to tighten the plastic surcharge. If there are alternatives for TO-GO plastic, why not ban the original? And if there are no alternatives, why not use the plastic surcharge to encourage measures such as deposit systems, reuse, or redesign?
