The problem with the DMF is now the clutch disk last longer than the Flywheel. In the old days you just replaced the clutch kit and no worries about the SMF at all. Now the customer pay 2x for a way less reliable product. We drove SMF for over the past 100 years and nobody died for a little vibrations or I never seen a transmission broke because of the flywheel. Somebody sold very well this bad idea to the car industry.

your absolutely right, these are just for money making solid flywheel clutch plate with springs thats all you need , also weak transmissions these days.

@@eddiekennedy7394 It's not the weak transmissions or just selling something unnecessary - DMF saves the transmission from more and more powerful engines that would ruin the transmissions pretty quickly. There are replacement flywheels that can be installed instead of DMFs and usually such replacement results in high level of vibrations and damaged transmission. It's a necessary evil, unfortunately.

these things are expansive as hell $1100 just for the part for me, $1900 for it to be installed in my ute.

@st3reo23 i feel your pain - changed it on my passat, but trust me driving and gearchanges become much nicer with a new one... for vibrations of course dont disregard injectors and engine mounts... while driving mine wasnt vibrating at all... only when idling, but it was f***ed for sure

Can someone explain if my lightweight flywheel could cause vibrations during decelerations?? I experience grinding/vibe during decel after my new race clutch kit. :(

"Noise- and driving comfort." The "and" acts as a conjunction between "noise" and "comfort", while allowing two attributes being specified. This structure is synonymous with: "this ensures a high level of noise comfort and riding comfort", but shorter.

@@aerbus Then it should've been accented differently. The way 'noise' is accented, makes it sound as if it ends the structure of the first part of the sentence. It still doesn't sound natural, even after 11 years since I made that comment :D

bullshit, I have a OEM sachs DMF on my Golf MkV and it's vibrating like hell, I have to change it soon, and it's gona set me back about 700 eur

It's so they can make cheaper transmissions. There's very little "development" in the auto industry (racing aside) that is for benefit other then profit. That's typical with most products. KERS would be a great system to put in production cars but if you use less gas, the manufactures don't receive as much money from the oil companies.

The dual mass flywheel protects the "now significantly cheaper and weaker" drivetrain components. People need to learn how to down shift and automakers need to quit jewin' pennies out of everything then raising the prices for all this "new technology". The auto CEO's just want a 3rd jet.
