东湖，位于浙江省绍兴古城以东约5公里处。东湖所在地，原为一座青石山。自汉代至隋代，因大量采石搬走了半座青石山，遗留下悬崖峭壁和采石深洞。日久这些洞窟遂成奇潭深渊。清末，绍兴乡贤陶浚宣在这里修筑长堤，将东湖与浙东古运河隔开，形成东湖独特的景观。
进入园区，东湖美景犹如风韵独特的山水大盆景，展现在游人面前。园区代表性的景点有：秦桥、香积亭、霞川桥、 饮渌（路）亭、稽寿楼、扬帆舫等。在扬帆舫能欣赏到当地特有的“水乡社戏”表演。此外，乘乌篷船游东湖，探秘东湖石洞深潭（陶公洞、仙桃洞、喇叭洞），并从水上视角观赏东湖的石山、石桥和亭台楼阁，会有别样的感觉。
东湖虽小，却以山明、水秀、岩奇、洞幽的自然休闲风光而独树一帜，成为浙江的三大名湖之一，令游人流连忘返。
East Lake is located about 5 kilometers east of the ancient city of Shaoxing in Zhejiang Province. The location of East Lake was originally a stone mountain. From the Han Dynasty to the Sui Dynasty, half of the mountain was moved away due to extensive quarrying, leaving behind cliffs and deep quarrying caves. Over time, these caves became strange pools and abyss. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Tao Junxuan, a native of Shaoxing, built a long embankment here, separating East Lake from the ancient canal in eastern Zhejiang, forming a unique landscape of East Lake.
Entering the park, the beautiful scenery of East Lake is like a unique bonsai of mountains and rivers, displayed in front of visitors. Representative attractions in the park include Qin Bridge, Xiangji Pavilion, Xiachuan Bridge, Yinlu Pavilion, Jishou Tower, Yang Fan Fang, etc. You can enjoy the local unique "water town social drama" performance at the Yang Fan Fang. In addition, taking a boat trip to East Lake, exploring the deep pools of East Lake Stone Caves (Taogong Cave, Xiantao Cave, and Horn Cave), and viewing the stone mountains, bridges, and pavilions and towers from a water perspective will give you a unique feeling.
Although small, East Lake stands out as one of the three famous lakes in Zhejiang Province due to its natural leisure scenery of clear mountains, beautiful water, peculiar rocks and caves, making visitors linger and forget to return.
