You listen very carefully there is an instrument behind playing the same melody as the laughters of Zhoushen. This gave Zhoushen the inspiration to sing coloratura laughters to sort of telling Lianglong the guy who kept pouring out his being unfairly jilted anger and frustration not to get too deep into your frustration! Zhoushen and Lianglong were performing a Chinese cultural Crosstalk in which Zhoushen was listening to the frustration of Lianglong after the break up and tried 5 different ways to challenge him to come out of it.

In this performance, both are good actors and jokers. Performed in a very entertaining and humorous manner. Like a couple in grudge. Another way to interprete the song is: Liang's girl friend had just parted him after a big quarrel. He had a down day and was drinking heavily. Having too much pride in him, Liang refused to admit his mistake. Zhou Shen was his Subconscious Self, who, then started teasing him and making fun of him --- branding him as Heartlessness. In the song Zhou Shen has added in Peking Opera and two other Dialect Operas. He also filled the song with many other special techniques. What an Elf who has been working so hard to equip himself with all these skills. Really enjoy the performance with admiration and thank you for your reaction.

The "heartless" one is the woman who dumped Liang. Liang is like "OK, you're gone, I'm perfectly Ok. I will move on!" On the other side, Zhou Shen is laughing at Liang and making fun of him. I have listened to this song repeatedly over the past weeks. Such a crazily creative and beautiful performance!

Zhoushen specially rearranged this song “Heartless You” to be sung like the Chinese Culture Crosstalk. Liang was the guy being jilted by the heartless one. Zhoushen was the one who responded to Liang talk. The second stanza of the lyrics were the 5 different characters of the Beijing opera characters and Zhoushen used 5 different styles of singing and rapping to represent them. The Chinese way of singing was the Beijing opera style of vocal singing. Zhoushen is very good at it. “Silver Lining” Zhoushen sang a Chinese poem in the Beijing opera style amazingly. The starting or the prelude of this song “Heartless You” was taken from the clips of the famous classical baroque music J.S. Bach Cello Suites. Every song of Zhoushen has a deep reflection and interpretation rearrangement to the soul of the song.

Every song of Zhoushen in the “Treasured Voice 3” is a treasure. Personally this “Hesrtless You” is the BEST of the best because it reflected the very value of Chinese culture in the Beijing Opera singing and Crosstalk musical presentation. Liang is a very famous and unique singer in his “Dongbei” essence. Dongbei means north east region of China. Free heroic singing tones and styles. Zhoushen used “Guiyang” and “Hunan” dialects to vocalise before the finale of the Beijing Opera lyrics. Guiyang was where Zhoushen brought up and Hunan was where Zhoushen was born.

After the deceptive classical western instrumental intro, ZS started in a weary voice of easy listening to reflect the content of the story, then on to classical Beijing opera, then echoing, then rap, back to popular, then back to rap, then on to different Chinese dialects with the finale ending in opera again. He added 2 cheeky countertenor laughter to mock the other person, which to me was quite brilliant. The song is essentially a lovers quarrel , with accusations against each other. You are right that ZS loves exploring and experimentation. We see he tries to stretch his creativity as far as he can. The last sentence of the lyrics sang in Opera voice is- why are you so heartless? Powerful, memorable, . I totally love this show because it one of singers’ feedbacking each others performance. Then performers discuss between themselves which singers sitting on the seat they want to sing with. That singer they have chosen will then get to choose one of the two performers. Then they have only about 1-2 hours to select. discuss, re-arrange & prepare for the sing to perform in the 2nd part of the show. Which means they really must be exceptionally creative, and had great mastery of music. This show encourages and embraces creativity have created and and revived old songs that might have forgotten. I’m most impressed and very happy for Chinas nouveau music industry.
