What is the ride in the K or k custom family that is the heaviest and most pingy of them. I know they stopped making the k heavy ride. So I'm looking for other k ride options. Thanks
@isihernandez9752
@isihernandez9752 2 жыл бұрын

I know this is an older video but...My son is 7 and has special needs (Williams Syndrome)... He watches this video every single day before a school and also falls asleep to it at night. He absolutely loves it. He claps along with the beats and makes me do it to! He knows the name of every single cymbal and can identify them by sound. His favorite is Mega! Thank you for making such a fantastic video!

Ya it’s too tight, and he shouldn’t have played them so hard. You couldn’t really hear the actual sound of the cymbal because of how fast and hard he was playing. It’s better than nothing though, I guess.

This is probably the greatest cymbal demo on you tube Tobias! And I've seen a lot. Your execution is insanely consistent and you wrote the perfect four bar phrase to show every kind of hit on a ride cymbal. We'll done and thank you for taking the time to do this.

Really appreciate having such a massive back-to-back-to-back comparison of all of these rides, especially with consistent volume levels of the kit and beat. That helps give an impression for each cymbal's sound, and how loud it is in context to the other rides. Videos that showcase just one ride make it hard to hear that comparison to other rides to know if one is bigger, louder, softer, drier, brighter, darker, etc.

It's not gunna change the sound of the cymbal really all that much at all. The only thing hes doing by cranking it down is adding more attack and killing the overtones which make it incredibly difficult to get an accurate EQ that reflects each cymbal properly. In studio it's fine to push your flets down a bit more, and most smaller studios will make you do it because otherwise the cymbals (especially the ride) wash out the entire mix. You keep your felts loose when playing live because you need your cymbals to cut through the rest of the mix and you don't have to worry about overtones at all. I think it's also because he's playing with a rack that obviously holds more cymbals and doesn't want them colliding with one another and he's reduced the amount of cymbals for this video to show the ride off better. That may just be speculation, but overall I really don't think he's altering the tone in any meaningful way for most peoples ears. It might matter more for high end recordings where certain frequencies need to be more strictly monitored, but I don't think for a youtube videos purpose that it makes any audible difference.
@lpjdrummer12295
@lpjdrummer12295 5 жыл бұрын
@@Southboundpachyderm tightening down cymbals like that is the no. 1 reason they break on the bell. So much shock is absorbed in that area (especially if you crash) that you soften the material to the point it breaks. Keep them loose, in fact not using the wing nut altogether is probably the best thing for your cymbals.

@@grooveroidI think this is the perfect ride, doesn't matter the size, but it sounds like a ride, without crashing too much like a crash/ride, it feels like one, has a beautiful bell sound, and you can crash on it without making much effort, so I guess it would work fine for what you want, or anything else!

@@gustavovieira7708 Absolutely. It's a Zildjian and i've always put my trust in them. So, it's not perfect but it's head a shoulders above the Z Custom I have been playing for over a decade. @Assimilator702
@Assimilator702 5 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Sims I’m not so sure it’s the same B20 alloys the Big boys use. There’s a lack of resonance in the Wuhan cymbals I don’t hear in any but the cheapest cymbals. I have 4 Wuhan 12” China cymbals I got cheap and they’re great for quick short and trashy blasts. And that’s the ONE THING they do well. But there no breath of frequencies you get in a Sabian, Zildjian, Paiste, UFIP, Byzance, Meinl, etc..... The lack of sensitivity at low volume playing suggests the Chinese aren’t rolling the Bronze ignots several times and creating the tension needed for complex tonality that we pay big $$$$ for. They do the minimum to get a one dimensional tone and not much else.
@Jeremy_Sims
@Jeremy_Sims 5 жыл бұрын
Joe Rico I’m not completely sure of what your saying when it comes to the alloy thing tbh Joe... B20 sheet metal, is B20 sheet metal 80% copper 20% tin. As long as it’s in the category of B20 there’s not much leeway within the percentages.... I do understand what you mean with the China’s not being able to sing at low volumes super easy, but I don’t believe that’s a Wuhan thing, that’s just because, we’ll it’s a China lol they take a little time to break in, really it takes any cymbal from any brand time to break in, all cymbals sound a tiny bit different over time. And hey, if the guy is in a pinch with money Wuhans are still worth they’re fair price if you ask me, they literally have (even if you do feel it’s not the exact same as Zildjian k’s for example) better quality at its price point than say Zildjian Zbts at the same price. And I’ll 1 Up you even more, check out Zultan Cymbals man even more variety of sounds, more consistent to the sound tests and still mad cheap 👍💯

I am thinking about buying a new ride that has a more distinct "ping" sound. I have a 21 in. Zildjian Rock ride that is over 30+ years old. It's still good, but the district ping is not as strong as I'd like. I think the one that I like is the 21 in. A Mega Bell Ride. It's "ping" is quite strong. If had two rides set up on two stands, you could "push and pop", and use a "stack" protocol, while you are playing one cymbal, a stage hand can be swapping the other one over! Hence you could achieve this all in one take. Extra points for knocking the cymbal off the stand when youre done with the passage.

5:39 My favourite ride cymbal for anything (well... For rock, metal because I'm a hard hitter 🥁🤘🏻) I've used in the past a 21" A custom 20th anniversary ride (it was my first ride cymbal... I bought it because it was the last ride cymbal in the store and I really needed a ride for studio sessions) It's a ok cymbal overall... But the bell wasn't really that powerful for my taste... And the stick definition wasn't the best because of the wash (It's a really nice crash cymbal btw 😂... Same as the sweet ride) So I switched to K ride and I was so blown away by the bell sound, how powerful and how consistent it was... And the stick definition was superb... And the tone... So fucking brilliant. I use K series (ride and hihat) and for crashes it's A custom 🤘🏻 (just sharing my cymbal set... I know that no one gives shit anyway... Oh well 😅)

I agree with what you said about the 21” Anniversary Ride! I’ve had both the 21” and 23” and not really impressed with the bell. Have you tried the K Sweet Rides?? Those are my favorites!
@SagiDrums

@@MatthewVlossak The sweet rides are much more better choice than the Anniversary. Fantastic cymbals. But for more versatility and power the K standard, K heavy, K custom hybrid and K custom medium rides are the best choice. And the K custom brilliant too (but for more heavier genres)

@@SagiDrumsI agree. I crash/ride a lot so the K Sweet in both the 21” and 23” are perfect for me whether I’m playing punk rock or softer music like jazz.

What an amazing company and what a great video. 400 years and so many tones! I’m a guitar player who just got sucked into a ride cymbal rabbit hole. In general, I like the sound of the K Custom special dry rides the best 21, 22 and 23. And the K. Constantinople medium high thin lows rides. Can someone explain what that even means?

I did a blind listen and marked down all the ones I liked the best. Giving them all a score out of ten. And here is what I liked the most. A Sweet Ride 22" Avedis 20", 21", and 22" (though the 20 sounded the best by far and the 21" was my least favorite) A Custom Sizzle Ride 20" (I think, I forgot to write down the size) K Ride 20” 7 K Light Ride 20” and 24" K Crash Ride 20” Brilliant The first two on that list are by far my favorites. I absolutely hated all the flat rides, and the one with the giant bell. And I didn't like most of the Constantinople as much as I thought I would. Although I am sure in a Jazz context my list would be completely the opposite of what I picked here. All the dark K stuff and the hammered Constantinople would probably be my favorite. I like my rock stuff to be pretty bright, pretty sticky, and pretty washy. Jazz stuff sounds best DARK and a little bit dryer I think.

I'm 67 years old and have never found my dream cymbal.....I've come close.......I don't like anything over 20" ......I don't like a ton of wash......but like a dry ping.....and mostly love a great bell........any suggestions? I've had luck with some.....PAISTE 20" signature heavy dark ride and used to love the Zildjian earth ride. I hated it at first after buying it (Newpaper ads back then)......stuck it a closet. Months later I pulled it out and thought I'd gig with it one night before I sold it ...just to get my money back out of it....I have to say.....I had other drummers come up during the break to ask what kind of ride I was using! They loved it! Taught me that it's not always what your ears pick up at close range but how it projects..........

Thanks for making a great video, about half a million bucks of a setup. Glad to know that the hundred bucks I spent on my PAISTE Alpha heavy ride 20 was well spent as I still like it more than these. Amazing how some of the real expensive k customs look and sound like a garbage can lid, apart from having a decent bell sound.
