Zinc nutrition is important for growth and development of cotton plants and boron is necessary for flowering initiation and to avoid fruit dropping. Cotton bolls size increases by application of boron in cotton fields. As we know pH of Pakistani soils is towards basic side greater than 8 so plants are not capable to uptake many micronutrients for their growth and development. Therefore foliar spray of micronutrients is recommended to increase their use efficiency.
In cotton crop, zinc and boron spray should be done when crop age is 45, 60 and 90 days. At this age, plants have started fruiting so yield per acre can be enhanced by their spray application.
Zinc sulphate 21% is sprayed @ 500 gram per acre and boric acid is sprayed @ 300 gram per acre.
Syngenta company boron by name Solubor can be used as boron source and FFC zinc Sulphate can be used as zinc source. Anyhow, chelated zinc @ 100 to 120 gram per acre gives best and quick results.
