Thanks for the review. Sounds like I'm gonna order a pair. I've been using my VO for a few years, and just recently tried my Auteur again after a long time. I noticed how much I prefer the Auteur for stuff like the new Arch Enemy. The guitars really came to life in a way I haven't experienced in the VO in a long time. So i'm happy to hear you say, that there more focus on guitars on the Atrium compared to the VO. Being a metalhead myself, I really need those guitars to shine.

Great review. I am looking for and lcd-x sound but with a much better sounds range. Wonder how this headphone does. How badly are the highs recessed? If it’s as bad as on the clear MG than it would be a no go for me. The strength or the lcd-x 2021 was clear highs while having a decent but not overwhelming base.

The highs are quite subdued but, when purchasing the Atrium from ZMF you can request a more porous titan mesh, which according to Zach, greatly increases the treble presence

You can EQ the bass with LCD-X as much as you want

Hey bro it gives me 2 ear pad options: universe lambskin pads or vegan universe suede…. Which ear pads do you recommend to bring out the bass in the Atriums??

Hey, I'm not a pad roller. At. All. I stick with the stock pads 95% of the time. I would reach out to Zach or if you're a member on Head-Fi, drop a message to Heliosphann. He does ZMF pad reviews.

Thanks for the review! And what do you think of the VC for faster/heavier metal? I suppose that most everything you said about the VO applies as well, but I would love to hear your specific impression.

I like the VC better for metal than the VO. I suspect that if and when we get a closed version of the Atrium that will be really interesting

I would say that theyre both quite sedated, which, as I said in the review, seems to be ZMF's trademark house sound. I believe Tyler is doing a video dedicated to a VO vs. Atrium comparison.

Amazing review. I was waiting for your impressions about the atrium with metal. Do you think a harder wood will help create a faster sound and more attack for faster metal ? I want to use the atrium with an OTL amp.

That question would be better answered by Zach, who mentioned that some of the common characteristics of the pads and various wood types might go out the window on the Atrium. Regarding using an otl with metal, I can only report on the gotl. I have been told that the Pendant, for example, is less euphonic sounding, and if you roll in faster tubes with a less propensity towards staging, that might help the situation, but that is only a semi educated guess on my part

Hey Monster, thanks for this awesome review! So these have the biodynamic drivers too huh. Have you heard any of the Fostex biodynamic headphones? Those are my benchmark for bass. How does the Atrium compare to the Fostexes (TH610, X00, or Denon D7200 or D9200) in terms of quantity and slam/punch? Thanks!

biocellulose drivers, same material as the Auteur drivers, but the drivers themselves are completely redone, so it isnt a case of simply swapping Auteur drivers into a new cup. To be honest, as much as Ive always wanted to check out the Fostex/Foster/Denon gear, i have not been able to get my ears on them. Based upon comments ive read around the forums about them though, I would make a semi educated guess that the Fostex might hit harder, but again, thats just a guess. The Atrium's bass is not overwhelming. Again, the Atrium was designed as "ZMF neutral", so the bass, although accentuated, isnt over the top. The beauty of the bass is the way it is presented, the decay and reverb of drums, and the way it entirely staws out of the way of the mids.

@@headkarma thank you. I would say the Fostexes have elevated bass (some are way more elevated then others). Would you say the Atrium has elevated bass? Still north of "traditional" neutral like Hifimans?

What mesh was equipped for this review? The solid mesh comes pre-installed as standard so I'm assuming it was with that. Other users have said that changing to the vented mesh greatly increased the transient response, dynamics and turned the Atrium into the most aggressive ZMF period, no mesh installed is apparently like that but with substantial Treble increase making its tone more like the Aeolus, something to seriously consider when using it with Heavy Metal I would say.

Yes, it has the solid mesh installed. It wouldnt surprise me if using a differet, or no mesh at all would make it sound more aggressive.

@@headkarma would you say that it makes the headphone much brighter? I've got the verite and as much as I love it, it's extremely dark, people are saying that the atrium with the solid mesh is just as dark, Zach himself posted some frequency charts showing without any mesh it brightens, still waiting on reviewers to go into more detail on that.

@@Ark-ok2bs yes, Zach already confirmed that changing the mesh will increase the treble and perhaps upper mids as well. The thing I'm trying to find out is what that will do to holographic headstage. I wouldn't want that to happen for my personal tastes

The reviewer makes a mistake by suggesting that if you want no bass but only detail retrieval, then get the Verite Open. IN fact the VO has substantial bass,.
