The term you were looking for at the beginning was projectile. Zoe's More Sparkles auto, as well as Senna/Thresh/Vel'koz/Rakan/Azir/Zeri/Lillia (might be missing some) autos don't count as projectiles, so Yasuo's Windwall or Samira's Blade Whirl or Braum's Unbreakable will not block it.

I gotta tell you, Zoe really doesn't feel as impactful as she used to be now. Even with great items, including a 25-stack Soulstealer, all the enemy team needs to completely ignore your damage is a single magic resist item. Even when you got Void Staff, you weren't really hitting that hard. There were just too many bruisers. I can't help but feel like the right answer at the moment is to play a champion that deals steady DPS as opposed to burst damage. I'm not saying you didn't play well, but as you noted, EVERYTHING that Zoe has revolves around her bubble. If you don't land it, you're basically useless, and bruisers just run you down.
