Episode 86
The wait is finally over! The world renowned Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo is now the 30th feature on Zoo Tours. We're wasting no time by kicking off with one of its trademarks attractions that made this place one of the best zoos in the world: the Desert Dome. Big, beautiful, record breaking, and certainly jaw dropping. The largest of its kind in the hemisphere, under the world's largest glazed geodesic dome - which immediately became a landmark to the city. The Dome features plant and animal life from three deserts of southern Africa, Australia, and the United States. Foxes, mongooses, wild cats, and dozens more inhabit the cliffs and canyon crevices - and at many times are well above your eye line. So it's not just the sheer size of the building that draws you in, but the attention to detail from the convincing rockwork, aboriginal artwork, and arid environment that creates a real life desert expedition. Enjoy what is known as one of the most monumental exhibits in the world.

This exhibit has always seemed really cool to me and I am happy I can finally watch an amazing tour of the place! I wish indoor deserts were more common because they look amazing! I'm happy to have another amazing indoor desert in my country, in Burgers Zoo. I think it might even rival this one in area size (excluding KotN), although the exterior of the building doesn't look as impressive as this huge dome. Can't wait to see more of Omaha on the channel, great work!

@@hailgiratinathetruegod7564 I haven't seen the desert dome in person, but from what I saw in the video, the environments look amazing in the dome, especially like when walking between cliffs. Burger's also looks great in this aspect, plus I agree that Burger's Desert has better exhibits. It's way cooler seeing the Bighorns climbing on their rock in this open dessert, looking at rattlesnakes and seeing the Paccaris walking around in the background and seeing the vultures above you on the rocks. So yeah, I think I do also prefer Burger's.

Fun fact: The random fish tank used to house a scorpion and a tarantula, but they changed it after they died, probably because they were hardly ever visible.

Luckily I live in Nebraska so I have gone to the Henry Doorly Zoo many times. It always gets better every time that I go. I always go in the summer, so it is really hot outside. Luckily they have misting stations every so often to cool you off. I am biased, but I believe it is the best zoo in America. Everybody should go at least once in their life.

My favourite zoo I've ever been is Zoo Planckendael in Belgium but my favourite zoo in the UK is Hamerton Zoo, Hamerton has so many different and rare animals from Australian and other regions including the only UK's Common Wombats, Dingoes, Possums, Bettong, Tiger Quoll, Syrian Brown Bear, Fat Sand Rats and more, with Echinda and Ringtails planning to go on display next year, mammals I want to see at Hamerton include Tree Kangaroos and Tasmanian Devils as they would be a great addition to the zoo and I would love to see Tasmanisn Devils so close to home

I understand the price of these deserts, but more zoo should make them. In one of your previous vids you showed us the the roo valley. I really think a small desert dome or maybe a bigger one would cost the same and it would draw much more guests and have more animals. Like if you agree

I completely agree with you on that because I mean like it would be awesome for guests to see animals of the Sahara desert the gobi and the thar and the Mohave because out in the thar desert lives asiatic wildcat and up in the gobi live gerbils and Bactrian camels and in the Mojave live the desert tortoises and desert bighorn sheep and carnivores like the swift fox and scavengers like California condor and in the gobi the main carnivore is snow leopard and they live there because the gobi desert is cold and scavengers like the Himalayan griffin vultures live but in the thar desert live Indian gazelle and Indian wild ass which is a wild donkey and carnivores like the white footed fox and scavengers like the lagger falcon while the Sahara has carnivores like the fennec fox pale fox and ruppells fox herbivores like dama gazelle rhim gazelle addax dorcas gazelle and hyrax and bigger carnivores like the Northwest and northeast African cheetah and the African wild dog small herbivores like Jerboa and scavengers like spotted hyena

@chasemurraychristopherdola7108 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMrFunny11 I completely agree with you on that but i think it would be awesome if there was a deciduous or a coniferous forest dome but If I were to build something like that the main areas would be the sikhote alin forests of Russia where Siberian tiger and amur leopards roam the coniferous forests of Scotland where the highly endangered Scottish wildcat lurks and the taiga of North America where the wood bison lived and the primeval forest of Europe where the only living relative of the American bison the European bison aka Wisent 🦬 lives along with the wild boar 🐗 , the moose or as it’s called in Europe the elk

Yes, yes! That's what I'm talking about! Yet, I've been there 2 times when I was in Omaha! However, they should've included binturongs & Komodo Dragons (although they no longer breed those dragons due to a recent news that a zookeeper got bitten by one). As a matter of fact, you should try visiting the Asian Highlands & the Kingdoms Of The Night soon! Sizzling Saltasaurus!👍🐆

I found one source with the answer. I assume in Omaha's case, this is a marketing thing. Cincinnati falsely claims to be the country's second zoo, Houston thinks they have the biggest gorilla complex, and though it's not their fault, people still think Georgia has the largest aquarium. Hint: this indoor Desert is on the other side of the world.
