This is it, the final episode of the Braking Bad series, where I finally explain the issue we had with the new carbon ceramics (Surface Transforms) discs and why we had to replace them a gazillion times.

Great insight - I'm looking to do this for my 997.1 GT3RS, really interested to see how they have gone on the track?

Thanks! I still haven't taken the car to a proper track day (this year the track days are not as frequent and my schedule is a bit tighter), but I have tested them on a few spirited drives and they're great. There is some slight noise when gently applying the brakes from higher speeds but when properly stomping on the pedal, it goes away. So for now they seem to be holding up great!

Super serija videov na zavorah. Zelo poučno. En nasvet za prihodnost, če senemaš v zaprtem prostoru zelo pomaga, če daš odejo za mikrofon saj ponavadi popolnoma izbriše odmeve, ki so prisotni v temu videu. Druga solucija je pa uporabiti dereverb funkcijo v porogramu za montažo edina slabost je, da ta funkcija malo popači zvok. Kakor koli super video. In želim ti srečno ter uspešno prihajoče leto.

Hvala! Uporabljam Rode SmartLav+ in še nisem naštudiral, kako bi bilo najboljše zmanjšat odmev :/ kak nasvet? Je boljše, da usmerim Rode Videomic direkt vame?

@@WeAreShifted Najboljše ga je pripeti direktno na sebe ponavadi okoli ovratnika na majici ali pulovru.

Za kamero pa daj samo kakšno odejo zato da absorbira zvok preden pride do stene in tako potem ne pride do odmeva. Veliko ljudi naredi napako kjer poskušajo absorvirat zvok vsepovsod okoli sebe kar ponavadi ubije bass v glasu. To ni potrebno, absorbcijo je potrebno narediti le v smeri v katero se govori. Upam da te nisem zmedel z vsemi temi informacijami.

Hi there. Great insight. Many thanks for sharing. I'm just about to press the button on the ST for my track focused Manthey'd 996 GT3 but obviously a little concerned with what happened to you. ST are just coming out with discs for the 996 but I think it might be a good idea to wait until a few others have them before dropping 10k into those.....!

Hey! Yeah, my experience was really frustrating, but if I'd had to do this again, I'd just take the car to MR, RUF or Ninemeister and have them install the brakes. That way, there's another layer between you, as a customer, and ST as the manufacturer. Ninemeister said that they got another pair of rears for a 997 turbo at practically the same time and they were absolutely perfect. So I guess it really was a defect and I was lucky enough to get it ... Anyway, the track day I did with the front STs and rear PCCBs was great and I didn't have any issues so I'm hoping this will be the case for the 2021 season. So yeah, if you can, drive the car up to a specialist, let them take care of it, bed the brakes if you'd like and I'm sure you'll be fine. Oh, and side note - on Red Bull Ring, I came into the pits after a cool down lap (6-8 fast lap stint) and measured the temps on my fronts and on a 991.2 GT3RS with stock steelies and both cars had around 200C. The difference is, his has been parked on that spot for my whole stint and it was only 10C outside. So the ST discs really do dissipate heat extremely well and I'm sure that can only be helpful for all the components on the long run.

Thanks for the reply mate! Yeah would be doing it through JZM in the UK so hopefully should be OK. I'll be the 2nd 996 theyll be doing - with the first another friend if mine-but no track yet to test because of pandemic! But hopefully should be good. 🤞

@@WeAreShifted Sure. Well when I get back on track again after all this Covid stuff I'll be posting track videos again! I'm just getting my 996 GT3MR as lean as possible coming up to track season. Hopefully with the ST rotors I should be down to 1348kg with full tank of fuel(89 liters) but no driver. And with 420hp, the car should move well!

Need to record an update - after I got the new rear discs, things were fine and I didn't experience any vibrations or shaking! So it looks like there was something wrong with the original set they sent, but still no answer as to what that was.

Hé! ST m'a finalement envoyé une nouvelle paire de disques et ils étaient parfaits ! Je les ai utilisés quelques jours sur piste, mais comme je suis très dur sur les freins, ils doivent être remis à neuf. Dans l'ensemble, le nouvel ensemble n'avait aucune vibration et il fonctionnait très bien !

I have a 997.1 GT3 RS with steels would you recommend ST’s if I buy from at Motorsports shop, how much weight savings … really appreciate the video cheers

Hey! Are you doing track days and if so, how many per year? And, how hard do you use the brakes? :) For a heavy track day user, I wouldn't necessarily recommend carbon ceramics, since you'd be refurbishing them quite frequently. If you're doing like 2-3 track days per year and are not chasing those last tenths, then do it. You'll get roughly 15-17kg of weight savings and much better ride comfort!

@@WeAreShifted super I am the later … 2-3 track days and spirited twisty roads … thinking these are affordable weight reduction and a set of lighter BBS wheels could take 60lbs off unsprung weight and hopefully feel .. appreciate you repsonse and video thank you

What the hell! Whatta story 🙈 Hope you received at least a 50% discount of „surface transforms“. Really thought their disks might be the answer to worn out PCCBs but after this story I might have to rethink

Haha I didn’t unfortunately :( you’ll try them out on the car next year and will see if there’s a noticeable difference. I sure hope the track performance will be worth the headaches ...
