This video was made for two reasons. The first reason is our response to the new film Zoya. The film is about heroic deed of Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, who was tortured and murdered by Nazi Germans in 1941. The film production was initiated thanks to Russian Military History Society (RMHS) and Vladimir Medinskiy, former Minister of Culture.
The second reason is the scandal that this film produced. Alexander Nevzorov, a journalist, criticised the film and said that Zoya was a fanatic. The Military History Society accused him of Nazism rehabilitation and reported on him to the Prosecutor's office.
In recent years, the World War 2 has almost become a religious topic in Russia. For example, Mr Medinskiy offered to treat Zoya as a saint.
We thought it is important to discuss Zoya in this context. When someone gives their life for Motherland, it is probably more than pure ideology.
