This is one of the best 1p backpacking tents I've used, as it gives you a ton of space, is easy to set up, and is feather-light. The AltaPlex is a Zpack Tent in the Zpacks DCF tent lineup and that DCF material makes this thing crazy light at just 15.4oz. Just bought one a few minutes ago. It's day 8 of ZPACK's 12 Days of Christmas...got a free bear bag and kit with the purchase. Awesome! Great video!!!

Only thing he didnt cover was the condensation issues. Very nice tent if you can always keep the door open, if not its a condensation nightmare

Great review - and if you pitch the side with the zpacks logo on the front left corner into the wind you get great performance from the way the door overlaps. Good tip you gave to pitch with door side low if you are on un-level ground - I didn't think of that 😎👍🏼

There are some really good videos on the tried and true way to setup this style tent which peaks at 60”. I also own one and when you set it up stake out the two back corners. Then come to the front and put in your pole (Trekking pole or Ruta Lucora carbon fiber pole) for a peak height of 60”. That’s 60”. When your holding the pole with the two back corners staked out, look down the tent from top of pole to each back corner and move pole where there is a straight taunt line down to each corner then stake the pole. Then go around and stake out the rest of the tie downs and corners. This will get you a near perfect pitch every time. Also keep the lines all the way out when pitching then adjust to tighten. But not so tight your pole bends.

Heck yeah! It's an awesome tent! How long have you been using one? I thought that's that one I saw you using on the @born and raised outdoors Land of the Free 1.0 series!

@@BackwoodsPursuit about 5 years. My two complaints about the tent is pitching in on uneven ground for instance a deer bed on the side of a mountain. And the cuben fiber does not compress down as well as a sill type fabric.

@@PureElevationProductions gotcha. Yeah, that makes sense for sure. This style tent can be more problematic to set up in locations that other styles.

I’m curious if you’ve compared the Altaplex with the Plex solo? I’d like to know if the plex solo is worth the $75 cost savings? Thanks in advance, and great job on all the great gear reviews!

Thank you! It does well in wind, especially if you use those extra guy out points. The DCF material does awesome in rain as well. I haven't had it in snow yet though as I didnt run into any snow while testing it out. It did get down below freezing while I was using it and it did well there also. If its windy and cold you may want to lower the height like I mentioned in the video to keep drafts out.

@@BackwoodsPursuit no worries. Liked the review and definitely an interesting tent for solo backpacking. Did you ever have a difficult time finding a spot to pitch it with the footprint? Thinking more about going full camp on back bivy-hunt situations.

@@chrisgreen359 thanks! I really had no issues finding a spot to pitch it on my trips using it this year. That said, pike @Pureelevationprodictions said, if you find yourself having to set up on a side of a hill, these style tents can be tough to get set up as opposed to a free standing with poles. Just something to consider.
