Dear friends,
For this episode I’ve accepted the recommendation from a fan to feature claypot loh shu fun. Since this isn’t a very popular dish, I’m skeptical on how it will perform in terms of viewership. Honestly speaking, regardless of how unpopular the dish is I’ve never neglected the production values and quality. All my videos are produced with same passion and motivation, although it’ll be nice if my audience can appreciate the effort I put by giving supporting me, just like the support you’ve given to our street food. Thanks, stay safe and healthy. See you in the next.

Hi Elmo, how about giving an episode on the Hakka beef ball soup. I have fond memories of teenage years enjoying the beef ball noodle and Hakka noodles during my student days in Ipoh. I am now living in Vancouver after having worked in Singapore for about 15 years, and long to have all h my favorite Ipoh foods!! You have a nice weekend!! Enjoy your KZfaq contributions as always!! Cheers and stay safe and healthy!!

Thanks, Elmo !! I.m referring to the Hakka Beef Ball which I relished in the good old days in places like Ipoh, Batu Pahat and Singapore. Yes, I know that the Teochews are the best in their fish ball noodles. Anyhow, i just thought that i haven"t seen an episode dedicated to the Hakka Beef Ball noodle. . Keep up with the good work. TGIF!!

Thanks for such a wealth of foodie information!! Please don’t be disappointed by viewers responses!! Really appreciate your review of the lesser well known foods! Like this one…! First time I’ve heard about this dish!! Normally it’s the rice version but now definitely putting this noodle version on my to eat list!! Your publicity really helps to ensure these culinary treasures are not forgotten!! Well done and thank you! 👍🏻👍🏻 BTW do they do the wind dried meat ( Lap Mei Gar Pow Fan ) version in Malaysia! Remember a very good one in London call Poon’s but at last it’s no more trading!!

Very good introduction to the Claypot Loh Shee Fun. Interesting indeed and I get to know how history has evolved around it. Yes- there is a very very big difference in cooking dishes / meals in a claypot ( from start to end) as opposed to those who cooked it without claypot and finished it by warming it up in a claypot. Big big difference indeed. Again - thank you Elmo and I’m hungry again after watching this episode. 🙏🏼👍🏽

I have been to Malaysia & HK many times but I swear this is the first time I hear about the dish, and it does look yummy!!! God, I have been dying to try Malaysian dishes for the past two years... (Ever since the pandemic broke out.) and finally, I am flying over to Penang next week and will probably settle down there for at least a few years. Hopefully, they have the same dish in Penang as well. I can't wait to try it!😁

When I hear the words lou shee fun, it always without fail brings back the memory of October 1988, it is a killer noodles from Perak, a tragedy that was in the main stream media for a week. It has a profound impact in my memory, maybe because I like lou shee fun a lot. I have since then avoided lou shee fun for many years. I have started taking lou shee fun again many years back but the memory or "phobia" won't fade away. I think there was a panic on food produce by unscrupulous Chinese. Sad indeed. There is another fantastic claypot lou shee fun in Serdang, most people in Serdang know about this restaurant. Yoke Heng Restaurant, Jln SR 8/4, Tmn Putra Indah, Serdang Raya.

@@malaysiafood328 thank you for the great video! Now I know why they are called ‘silver pin noodle’ in HK and ‘mee tai bak’ in Singapore. Also in HK they don’t call it claypot rice or noodle, they call it little pot rice or “boh jai fan”. The 1988 food poisoning incident affected Singapore as well. The white noodles like LSF, kway teow were banned immediately and although Singapore authorities tested the samples and reported them safe, people just stopped eating those out of fear. It was initially thought the boric acid and other chemicals used to preserve the noodle and make them shiny were the culprit. In the end, Malaysian epidemiologists traced the source to a single factory in Kampar and pinpointed to aflatoxin (not boric acid) as the cause of death. It was due to improper storage of flour that allowed aflatoxin contamination. It was also true excessive boric acid was used but it was not the main cause. Interestingly boric acid was widely used illegally in food manufacturing as a preservative in many types of noodles and fishballs but ironically among samples tested, LSF had the lowest concentration of boric acid.

Hi Elmo, I just subscribed your youtube channel. Can you do videos on Nyonya food, especially when you have run out of Chinese dishes ? Nyonya cuisine is hybrid cuisine - Malay and Chinese. But since it is half Chinese, it would be interesting for viewers to learn more about it. I love Nyonya food - savoury, spicy, sweet desserts like their kuih and their rich santan tong sui.
