The Last Samurai visits Zuishinin temple in Kyoto city and talks about its history and the story of Onono Komachi, Japanese famous poet and also the most beautiful woman in Japanese history. He also shows the plum garden of the temple. You can also learn about Shingonshu sect of Buddhism.

Another beautiful video, thank you for sharing. I might try to visit on the way to Daigoji next time. Ono no Komachi's tale is so interesting - it seems there's plenty of mystery about her. I wonder how much of her perceived beauty came from her ability to write poetry? I have only read some of her works but she does talk about love often, which spurs the imagination. And to receive so many letters! Incredible.

Her ability to write poem must have been important factor of her beauty, I guess. In those days it was difficult to see women’s face directly.

Right. Buddha said we are destined to get old and sick. Komachi’s poem is about this.

Both the temple and the plums were amazingly beautiful! I only wish we had a realistic portait of Onono Komachi so we could see how she looked! Thank you for this video Samurai!!

This is so beautiful. The cherry blossoms, the love story! Have you been to the Nawa Shrine, Daisen-cho? It's the one place I would love to go to if I had a magic wand.

No I’ve never been to Nawa shrine. Cherry blossoms seem to be wonderful. And you don’t need the magic wand to go there.
