ZWO ASIAIR 2024 - Removes TF Card Slot?

I wanted to do a quick upload regarding some buzz in the community about ZWO stating they have a new 2024 version of the ASIAIR Plus. The biggest take away is the removal of the TF Card slot but upping the internal memory of 256 GB for the same price of 299 USD. Lets discuss the changes of how excited or not excited you are about them.

I have an ASIAir Plus 256 and have several issues using it with my AVX mount. The main issue is the “mount disconnect” errors when guiding is on. Despite sending ZWO several bug reports over the last few months they can’t or won’t fix the problems. Sounds like a typical conflict with two companies blaming each other and neither want to fix the problem. I guess their solution is for me to purchase a ZWO AM5 but their customer support is lacking in my situation. Im amazed at the lack of documentation is with this mainstream product. I’ve had to resort to using a miniPC using NINA with the Celestron CPWI software. While I don’t like having to use Windows I’m now not tied to only using ZWO products. I may keep my ASIAir in case I upgrade to a different manufactures mount.

Curious why they still call it a TF card? SanDisk created this format in 2004 but very quickly renamed it microSD probably as far back at 2007 or 08.

No idea why they still call it that. Just call it a SD card it's 2024 ZWO haha

Can’t you plug memory into the USB-c port?!?

It's possible I would think. Would need a usb-c hard-drive to do so

Thanks for posting this. I am new to the asi air, I purchased a used pro model from eBay I have not used it yet. Just still learning. But tried to make a backup copy from video tutorials and the copy won't work Doesn't seem to boot up. No wifi signal to android device and the green wifi light doesn't come on, or even flicker on the unit I tried 2 new good quality cards but no avail, and even downloaded the OS from online and Nothing. Using win32 imager not sure what's going on? ... Anyways, I was going to get a 2nd unit, and since I'm not familiar with the asiair this video helped out much I've read discussions About the change of no sd slot, I see mixed feelings some ok with the previous 32 gig unit. It's not a real big deal but I do like the idea of removing The sd card after sessions and did it with my DSLR for many months But the reliability fact of the sd card over USB is important more for me And I've read about some calibration frames being corrupted from the USB Save mode? So I made the decision to buy a 32 gig plus with sd card slot From agena Astro they had 3 in stock .... Now they have 2, I figure if the slot idea is important to the experienced community, then they may go fast. Thank you for this post! And I also purchased the asi585mc pro Based off your review. This will be my First cooled camera. Thanks again!

@@jimcarter2092 Great to hear you got the 585! its a wonderful camera for that price range. Rumors has it a mono version is coming out at some point. And for sure anyone that wants the older models are going to go fast at this point. Just hope they fixed the issues with the USB not frying the thumb drives

@@OuttenAstrophotography thank you, And just to note, I know of you thru chucks channel, I've watched his videos For over a year but became a member Few months ago, I'm not much of a chatter but prefer to listen, and occasionally, read the chats, my life long Previous hobby is music play 5 different Instruments and own around 27 So now, I've been going down another Rabbit hole! Lol!

So the people that were going to buy one are upset? I've got three of them (+ version), so it doesn't really affect me. There is some of the older units in stock , so they should take the time they would use complaining online about it and grab one before they're all gone ; ) The bigger issue by far is the power section on the unit. If they were to beef it up, it would be a perfect solution. But that obviously isn't going to happen, so I'll just continue on pairing mine with the Pegasus PPB.

Oh the uproar is wild I'm seeing on this. I have a 32gb first gen and the 256 one that had the tf card slot so I now have some relics. They are probably going to be integrating more into the camer units with the asiair plus. Power regulation on the ASIAIR I would say is the big limiting factor right now. Probably why my usb sticks kept dying having to run a eaf, efw, 2 dew heaters, guide cam, and main camera.

The power supply is definitely the biggest issue. ZWO themselves list cameras you shouldn't use with it and don't recommend powering your mount with it. The advertising for these units and power capabilites bordered on false-advertising. But everything else is great and I love mine!!(Thanks to the Pegasus PPB lineup)

In my opinion, it's time to ditch the air and seriously get a mini pc and run nina. I'm in the process of doing this, although there is a learning curve to it. ZWO has seriously lost it's way, instead of concentrating on upgrading it's wifi capabilites, they gone done shit like this. What a dissapointment !

Definitely a path forward! I ditched my mini pc/nina for the simplicity of the air world. It just works

@@alfredterrence6112 Whenever i get to finishing my observatory shed i might go back to NINA. With all the automation that can be used.
