Thanks Hunter. What a great option for on the go capturing when I don't have time to set up my 8se for an hour of clear skies. Personally I think I would leave the solar filter on as a lense cap to keep dust out.

When you observe the sun, It asks to move up the Seestar, first, so manually move it, then put filter on

I ordered mine in late September and it came in December. I've been having a blast with it. Unfortunately, my home has a LOT of light pollution, but I still can see star clusters and some of the nebula. I love that device! And yeah, it's a steal at $499! I mean, you get everything you need, along with a case and free shipping!

I think the current crop of these smart telescopes is only the beginning. Lets wait and see what the upcoming celestron can do, then the next gen seestar. I love my big rig and my seestar for different reasons, will my seestar replace my big rig, no! As the smart scopes get better they could possibly replace big rigs one day.

I been in the hobby 13 years. I actually own a cpc 1100 HD, so a big scope. I go to this one more. The other one is heavy and takes a lot of effort to set up. This isn’t only for beginners, this is for people time constraint, can’t lift heavy equipment, travel lots and want something portable. It takes decent pictures and in the future the old way of doing astronomy will be gone and these fully computerized units will take over. Think of old cameras with film and the new digital. I don’t see many photographers using film. It took time.. but it will happen.

Thank you for your video. I myself also have the SeeStar as an absolute beginner, unfortunately, I haven't been able to do much yet due to the very bad weather. But tomorrow night, the sky is supposed to open up for a few hours ;-) My question: Are the images around minute 11 as they come from the SeeStar, or were they edited by you afterwards?

The reason there isn't landscape mode is because the sensor is a rectangle. If you look thru the main lens you can see it. And because it's Alt/Az drive, the sensor will never rotate into landscape mode. As far as solar viewing goes, your supposed to manually raise the scope with Scenery mode, and then put your solar filter on before choosing Solar viewing.

Amazingly good for steady shooting during the day - but the calibration, levelling, anti fogging routine to get the most mediocre picture of something you can’t / barely see with the naked eye conjoined with the image processing required to get a half decent image is a total put off - your better off Googling whatever you want to see and looking at someone else’s ’professional’ pictures that will be 100% better than you will ever achieve !!

Sigh another seestar bandwagon video these have been done to death. The seestar is an excellent beginners setup due to its simplicity, You will learn a lot about the stars and planets and how to set up and it's a great intro into Astrophotography. HOWEVER don't expect awesome images, yes they will look great on instagram but you are very limited with what you can do with it. 1: it is not an eq mounted device which means horrible field rotation as you use it during the night 2: the image quality is Meh compared to what you can do with a better scope, a cooled camera and an equatorial mount (obviously they do cost money) 3: If one thing breaks on it then you dead in the water. It is more or less a paperweight whereas with a dedicated Astro setup you can chop and change, the sky is the limit. 4: resale value will plummet as soon as the next incarnation comes in. Whereas you don't lose as much in resale for dedicated equipment Don't let what I said put you off however as I still think it's great for beginners and such a great learning tool for outreach, schools and for those days when a more seasoned astrophotographer just can't be bothered setting up or is traveling.

Right and that's what I geared my opinions too is the ones dipping thier toes into the hobby. Someone like me would not completely dump my rig I have for only using this by all means. But it's going to be a huge help for me when I have groups of kids 7-15 this summer at Space Camp instead of me lugging everything several times a week over a hour away all summer long.

@@alphaastro3068 have a look at the images you get with that setup, then try some of the stuff I do and some others, that $500 is a niche only for instagram likes.

@@alphaastro3068 '(obviously they do cost money)'. There you have the answer to your rant: AP costs shedloads, and many have no idea whether it's worth spending that sort of money on it. Devices like these encourage newbie's to investigate the hobby, or give the less committed / less wealthy all they want. Yes, newer tech will replace it, but it doesn't stop working just because it's been superceded.

You sound like the type of person who will go to McDonalds and complain about the lobster. The Seestar S50 is best for what it is trying to be, a gateway to enjoy and share the beauty of the skies. No one in these videos you seem to hate (but watch) is saying the Seestar is here to replace high-end multi-thousand dollar AP setups. For $500 people can start imaging and sharing the universe without the tremendous cost and learning curve of traditional AP, and most of these videos point that out. Sad that someone with AP in their handle would take such a snobby elitist perspective and not welcome a new crowd to the hobby.
