There was a trial in real life that was similar to the Saint-Malo Trials in how the defendant was making very valid points but nobody listened. It was the Trial of King Charles the 1st. Historiacivilis made a video about it. Literally every other faction on SMP Earth was against Techno, and Techno probably knew that if he kept up the claims, it would ruin the content for everyone. One thing you might notice about him if you watched his streams is he was very diplomatically skilled, choosing his allies wisely, turning away bad requests for allyships, seeking benefit and avoiding unnecessary conflict. He definitely read art of war. The truth of the matter about the punishment thing though, was that Techno *Allowed* them to punish him, he was probably satisfied with having technically ruled the world. He would have been able to threaten them more into allowing more expansion, because he had A.) Land claim of 70% of the Earth B.) Everyone in Saint-Malo trials was badly armed, with only Technos' team had weapons, Ph1lza even whispered to Techno about killing them all. In the end, it's not that Techno was being punished, it's that he decided to allow himself to be handicapped. And perhaps, the whole reason he accepted the punishment was a big brain move for him to have a good reason to spend less time on the server and focus his efforts on the Potato War, after all he apparently said that conquering the world in SMP Earth was a diversion to win the Potato War and distract Squidkid from his real plans. He won all along.

While they were playing it as minecraft, Techno was playing it as Civ.

yeah, everyone said techno was the “main character” but i think tommy was, even if business bay were the antagonists. think about it, no main character is the most powerful and always gets everything their way. tommy constantly got defeated and betrayed by everyone. he and business bay had to work a lot to get somewhat strong. the antarctic empire basically had it good for the entirety of the server, never really going through much character growth or decline. also, when the whole server fought against big bertha, deo got the final hit and killed the dragon. deo was also a member of business bay. coincidence? not a chance! and to add to that, on the final day of smpearth, business bay pretty much came on top and tommy accomplished a lot of his goals. tommy made up with wisp, got a dragon egg, destroyed the treaty of the pit, and got someone in his sand trap. business bay even blew up all of the factions that were more powerful than them, leaving them as the most powerful faction on smpearth in the end. that sounds like a pretty “main character” arc to me. (sorry for making this so long. i’ve been really bored in quarantine so i’ve been rewatching a bunch of smpearth videos lol)

I know this comment is a month old but I'm going to answer it because nobody else has. It's because he lacks intelligence to a point where if you don't make a treaty with him, he'll just become an annoying pest constantly bothering you and being annoying while also being so bad at pvp that fighting him is equivalent to chasing around a chicken while trying to kill it with your bare hands. Making a treaty with him saves you from having to be constantly annoyed by him, and the process of making the treaty saves more time than would have been lost by him being annoying.

In the recent MCC Techno kept barely losing to Dream because Tommy threw multiple games to sabotage Techno, but even then when the two teams had a direct 4v4 in PvP Techno's team won anyway. Dunno what you're on about.
