I watched this concert on German television at the age of 22. It was 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning. I drank a good beer and smoked a fine cigar. After that, I fell asleep and burned a big hole in my parents' armchair. I woke up when the smoldering fire reached my thigh. A good memory for me - not for my parents :-))

Met a drummer who met Billy Gibbons while standing in line at a Buc ee's in Texas. It was about 11 am, the Reverend was wearing pajama pants and asked the guy what he thought the best beef jerky was. Said they talked for almost an hour, Billy could be someone's neighbor and they'd never know. ZZ Top was playing that night in, yes, La Grange and Billy said something like "Come on down", and the guy said he'd have to ask his wife (turns out she wasn't havin' none of that!!!). The guy showed me the selfie with him and Billy. I don't know how people don't love Texas.

I owe my initial exposure to "that little ol' band from Texas" to my brother, Stan. He brought home two classics: Tres Hombres and Fandango! I was 11 at the time and it blew my young mind! Years later, I got the opportunity to repay my brother by taking him to see ZZ Top in concert (Afterburner tour) in 1986. Turns out it was the only concert we'd ever see together as we lost Stan in 1999. ZZ Top will always be near and dear to my heart! Thanks for always keepin' one foot in the blues!

If you only know them for Legs then you finally recognize this little piece of bluesy rock magic for what it is...there had to be some grand muse or great collaborative force or vibration in the zeitgeist that allowed for this type of music during that time because it surely came to an end at some point. Waiting for someone more literate than me to quantify it more succinctly.
