This is #1 on my ZZ Top playlist & #4 on my favorites playlist. I can enjoy the songs from the 80's, because no matter what they were well done & great to listen to. But, I have to say I enjoy their earlier stuff a whole lot more. You might try, "Waitin For The Bus/Jesus Done Left Chicago", "Tush", "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers", "Cheap Sunglasses", "Blue Jean Blues", "My Head Is In Mississippi", so many other great songs to choose from. Their albums "Tres Hombres" & "Fandango" are their best IMO

Real ZZ Top fans like all their stuff from any decade. Their Eliminator album from 84 is a classic. Sure, some albums were more successful than others but they have an incredible body of work.

Keep in mind, that with "Recycler," they put aside the synths and brought the boogie back unadorned (albeit with state of the art production). "My Head's in Mississippi" remains my favorite ZZ track, and it's from that era.

ZZ------ a group that is totally recognizable from the getgo. That pulsing drumbeat, pumping bass, and insane guitarist ---- crazy. And they are not bracketed my any 'decade'. They never deviated from their original sound ----Texas Hard Driving Rock. Try Pork Chop Sandwich.

Definitely here for "the get down". Great reaction to this classic ZZ Top banger! I hear what you're saying about the 80s "leg" of their career and i must say most folks overlook their 80s hit "Let the VELCRO FLY". I love it cuz it's main drive is the DRUMS. Check it out if you choose. As a fan since the 70s, i can guarantee you won't be disappointed

This was my introduction to southern rock. I was 16 when Tres Hombres album came out. Regular mainstream rock was nothing to me from that point on. This spoke to my soul. Oddly enough I'm still a big fan of Steppenwolf. Seger and Uriah Heep. But I wore out sn 8 track of Tres Hombres and later a cassette tape. I figured you'd dig this.

So glad to see you having such fun & rocking out to this song; saw my first ZZTop concert inLos Angeles in the 80’s with a new band as their opening act(Bon Jovi), then twice after I moved to Texas in the 90’s; George Thoroughgood in the 90’s & saw them about 2 years ago here in Dallas- roommate in a big Jimmy Buffett fan & ZZ was his opening act-talk about a party concert-both of us are white ladies in our 70’s & both like all kinds of music; take care, have a great weekend & stay safe. 🤗🤗🥰🥰🤪🤪

Great choice - Timeless Boogie Rock! This song features a really cool method utilized extensively on the last guitar solo, where you (Billy Gibbons) use the guitar pick and finger/hand to hit the string in a way as to produce a harmonic of the note (one example at 4:45). As a budding guitarist when this song came out, I figured out how to do that, and used this technique in other songs as well. And, like many other bands, ZZ Tops studio sound relied on adding a 2nd guitar part to create the overall sound.

The coolest thing about ZZ Top isn't just their 'keep it simple' strategy or the fact that Billy 'The Reverend' Gibbons is the ONLY guitarist to ever intimidate Jimi Hendrix... It's not even the fact that the guitar/bass work for EVERY single one of their 151 songs only requires the same three strings... It's the fact that its the same three guys working together for the past 50+ years.

In the 80s ZZ Top did go commercial and they became parodies of themselves with the beanies, the sunglasses the long beards and those furry guitars that spun around. They even used Auto-Tune once in awhile . Their music was Ok in that era, however, in the 70s they kicked major ass

When exactly did they use Autotune? Remember that Autotune wasn't introduced until '97. There is a difference between Autotune and vocal effects. Although Autotune has been used for vocal effects, that wasn't ever it's main function.

DramaSyDE, I have an idea I feel like you would find interesting. Chris Cornell's cover of the song "One" by, well that's complicated. See, he says he had the music in front of him and so he Googled the lyrics, and it seems the most Googled lyrics for "One" are for the song by Metallica, but the music in front of him, was for the song "One" by U2! However, since he Was after all, Chris Fucking Cornell, he said Let's see what this sounds like! and proceeded to perform the song. Music by U2, lyrics by Metallica, rendition by Chris Cornell. Question; is this technically still a cover, of either song? Or something else? If you get time, check it out.
