I picked up one of the lighted "card" magnifiers you used in this. Great advice. I was finally able to see exactly what was going on in a trouble spot I'd had on an M390 edge without needing to reprofile the entire edge, and fix it. 60x was the minimum magnification that let me find it. My old 20x loupe was no help. Thanks for the advice!

I used to use utillity knifes for cutting fabric for hobby sewing purposes where there its important to only cutting the backside of the fabric. Had to switch blades after every minute so i switched to literal razor blades that i hold between my fingers. They still got dull pretty fast, but not as fast as the utility knifes, while being cheaper and easier available. Damn i definitely need a carpet knife for that now. If I didnt cut myself with straight up "loose" razor blades, i can manage to not injure myself with a carpet knife if i stay mindful using it I assume :') The large amount of the exposed blade in both direction is rather scary though ngl

How’s the edge retention of the coarse grit vs the fine grit? If the fine grit holds the edge longer, is the difference in retention of the fine grit worth the extra time to spend on it? I see that the fine grit gets the knife to cut slightly better, but if I don’t have to worry about the micro level so much, will the coarse grit hold up almost as long?

if this knife had an apex and a very sharp edge alongside with the primary thiness then oof boy it would really cut!

Have you tried using this much since the vid upload? I ordered this based on your review and the got heavy scratches in the stone surface after a couple of sharpenings. I sent it back and got a replacement, Ive used it once and diamonds are already delaminating leaving rust spots.

Just to add, I bought this to replace an ezelap 400 and sky 1200, which I’ve had for 10-15 years and were only recently loosing diamonds. It “could” be my technique, but I don’t press hard and really doubt it

Yes mine is fine. Are you using it with water?

Yep. And I have used other diamond stones for years without problems, so while it’s possible it’s a technique thing, I doubt it. I looked on reviews and Reddit and found quite a few folks are having the same issue. Maybe there’s a difference in quality in different batches?

I bet when the haters go shopping for groceries, they don’t even notice themselves that they either choose items that have been already precut and marked up to an absurd price for suckas with dull knifes, or they just don’t buy items that require cutting or trimming, but you have to remember these people either grew up in single parent homes or their dad was another mom and they probably had went through a lot of acidophilus during their childhood.

Really excellent, I wanted to get one originally, but did my own research and found out about the Horl. I didn't buy am I am very glad I didn't after your review, I think a Workforce would be a lot better. I did leave comments about the "original" Horl when I saw an add pop up about the tumbler. What pure junk!!!

Eh do you know what coarse vs fine means? It's like sand paper... You need moderate pressure on coarse then after use the fine side with the same pressure... But wet stones allow a pro to set their own angle and do a better job regardless.

You should get the venev Centaur CBN stones ive got the resin bonded diamond and the resin bonded cbn stones and the cbn is by far better. You can get them at gritomatic.

So minimal sharpening setup is something like that 400 grit, a strop with compound and a jewelers magnifier? Not too bad

Can you suggest some alternatives or websites that sell these products in India. As none of these products are available in India even on Amazon they aren't available. Some are available but they 2-3 times the cost, which is really expensive.

The Shapton Ha No Kuromaku 2k has been a favorite of mine for years. It's the best stone in the line IMO, and I have them all except for the 120 and the 30k. It produces a really clean apex with the perfect amount of tooth for my liking. It cuts fast and has good feedback for a Shapton. It's one of those stones in my collection that I would put in the "can't live without category". The 1k is more like a 700 in my opinion. Still a great stone I just think it's courser than true 1k stones. I have way too many 1ks to compare it to 😅

Instead of the super cheap diamond stones reviewed here, you should just sharpen your knife on that brick. The sharpening surface on the brick will last longer. richard --
@chrstfer2452
@chrstfer2452 Күн бұрын
I think by illusion of sharpness they mean that when using the brick the edge itself isnt becoming appreciably thinner than the pull through gets it, but because of the sawtooth pattern you get the effect of a thinner blade by virtue of the jagged edge. Not sure if in the long run that matters (for instance how long the edge lasts, and how much material you remove lowering the lifetime of the blade)
