Thanks for the video. My screw was tough too. Got a screwdriver that fit perfectly and tapped it on top. I really had to bear down on it but it came out. Used compressed air and torch tip cleaner to clean it. Put it back together and it seems to be running fine. Thanks again

I know there will be a really good answer to this question, 'why was there no lubricant in the gear/s on dis-assembly and none on re-assembly'?

The main problem that always fixes surging, starting, warm start issues is the main jet with the plastic housing. Remove the blackouts plastic idle screw, remove the main jet and clean orifice with a fine drill bit set specifically for very fine jets and reinstall and adjust your plastic screw 4.5 turns out for proper engine rpm. I’ve done this 4 times over 8 years of owning this mower and it always fixes the recurring issue. The jet is so fine and gets clogged and corroded over time. Amazon sells the mini micro precision drill bits for about $8 for a set of 20 different sized bits. Enlarging the main jet hole size by 2 or 3 bit sizes larger also helps to increase the fuel intake to the carburetor and it will run smoother.

You need a jis (Japanese industry standard) screw driver to remove that screw. easily found online. Funny most Japanese cars like my Toyota have many of these screws which look like plain old Philip screws. I'm sure many people stripped many of these not knowing this.

Very helpful video. Thanks a lot. Helped me to resolve exactly the same problem with my relatively new and little used HRN536 with the GCV170 engine. I never had this problem with the old Hondas. Whether this is an ethanol issue or whether the new idle jets are more prone to clogging I don't know. I could not unscrew the idle jet - it was fast, but carb cleaner and ultrasonic cleaning did the trick. Thanks again

Ive a 2019 hrx217 k6vla versamow that is kinda dragging the left rear wheel and when it does roll its making a clacking noise as it goes around. The drive still works fine. It seems ti only be like that when im pushing it without engaging the transmission. At first i thought it was a wheel bearing,so i replaced the left wheel where im hearing the noise. Noise didnt go away obviously. At a glance the gear looks ok,tire sits nice and straight,shaft seems tight. Im really stuck on this one,please help if youve any ideas.

Thanks for asking, Have you looked inside the gear spur yet? Making sure the spring and woodruff key are in good shape?
@dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982
@dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982 Ай бұрын
Also I would confirm where the “clacking” noise is coming from and or isolate the noise. Is it coming from the wheel and the transmission gearbox. The gear oil inside the transmission is just 10W30 motor oil so I would just peak under the deck and make sure the gearbox isn’t saturated in oil, I would all so apply some marine grade axle grease to each wheel gear spur and see if the noise improves.

@@dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982 I'll give it a look. I've gotta buy me some new snap ring pliers before I can. Broke one side of the one I need. I just sharpened the blades a week ago. I'll start with the key and spring and the grease you mentioned. I've cut alot of wet overgrown grass and I mow alot of hillsides too. Hopefully its something simple,hate to have to buy another transmission. I'll let ya know if I find anything certain

Yes, vibration vibration vibration , So I know exactly where you’re at and this is a very common problem. I use and cordless auto hammer NOT! a air hammer to be clear but a cordless auto designed for small brad nails works every time. Also I highly don’t recommend using a pulley puller because if it’s really sized you can potentially break the pulley and or “ears” off. I’ll send you the link if the tool I use.

If you choose to use this method install the blade bolt without the blades all the way into the crank shaft and hit/impact the blade bolt not the crank shaft or pulley and it will vibrate right off with some penetration lube.

Thank you for the video! This has been a big help with my repair. I did have a question. If the bushings in the height adjuster do need to be replaced, what are best practices when installing the new bushings? Do they require any lubricant at all? I wasn’t sure since they are plastic. Also do I just use a hammer to tap it down into the wheel assembly hole?
