Hi! We are moving a 65" tv soon and I have two questions. I'm seeing dedicated TV moving boxes that are expandable with foam corners offered for screens up to 86". Would you still recommend crating instead? Do you have any recommendations for safe TV placement in the moving truck? Thank you SO much for all of these thorough videos. They are an incredibly help as we prepare for a DITY move.
@StumpfMovingandStorage2 күн бұрын
We don't use the boxes that you described for large televisions. Typically we will crate larger televisions. 65 inch televisions fall within the gray area. There's nothing wrong with those types of television boxes, and for some people they could be much easier to use. We like to create larger televisions because it provides a safe housing that can be loaded on top of in the moving truck. If you find a box like you described that will fit your television, I don't think you can go wrong. As we always say boxing is half of the protection. The other half of protecting your belongings is properly loading. Having the television loaded properly inside of the moving van will insure it's safety during the move. We load televisions as if we are loading picture boxes. They are placed on top of base in the tier. We consider TV boxes to be "middle stuff". We will use other television boxes or picture boxes to fill out the tier and make it flush. Then we will load lighter items also known as "chowder" or "stick" on top. We have a video that describes the process of loading and moving van. I will link it at the bottom for you: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f518ipel2K-shIU.htmlsi=wpU8HnuYMPcmv0eS

What type of ramp did you use for that?
@StumpfMovingandStorage10 күн бұрын
We use two types of ramps. The first is an aluminum ramp made by Magliner. The second is a fiberglass walk board made by Melcher Manufacturing. The ramp in this video is a 12ft long fiberglass walk board. We ramps with many different lengths, ranging between 8ft and 16ft long. I hope this helps!

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say here. We are professional piano movers who have specialized in moving pianos since 1936. I hope this was very clear in the presentation and the demonstration of how to dismantle and move a grand piano. This video is not meant to be a tutorial, but an education for our perspective clients. If this video showed you how difficult it can be, then we did our job. The casual viewer of this video should never attempt to move a piano by themselves. Unless you have the training, education, and experience, you should never move a piano. Always hire a professional!

Love the video. You just have to stop using those darn swivel dollies lol, too dangerous. And if you used a stationary wheel dolly which is much safer, you can also tip the piano down on its legs leaving it on the dolly which will put a lot less stress on the lyer and the end leg.
@StumpfMovingandStorage11 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching the video. We've had this dolly conversation before. Fixed dollies are hard to work with and difficult to maneuver. That becomes even more pronounced when working in tight areas. Swivel dollies are not dangerous at all, and they make the piano move easier on the movers. It doesn't matter what kind of equipment is used, Movers must be trained to use their equipment properly and safely. You can even tip the piano onto swivel dollies as you suggested with the fixed dolly. Regardless of the dolly used, we find that technique to be extremely dangerous and only to be used when absolutely necessary. We've been moving pianos since 1936 and have cultivated our moving techniques over many years of experience. Everything from the equipment we use to the techniques we employ are tried and true methods of piano moving that have stood the test of time.

Dish pack usually on first floors. Just use ramps for stairs and 2 wheeler with a high pistol grip dolly and take 3 dish packs in per trip.
@StumpfMovingandStorage11 күн бұрын
That might work out west or in coastal regions but, in the north east most homes are not built on level ground. Quite often we will have a flight of stairs to get to the home. You would need to bring several sets of 16ft walk boards if we did what you are suggesting. We almost never use 2 wheelers because they end up slowing us down.

Man I wanted to see how your skid touches the ramp, but you cut it on both parts of the video. I have the necessity of moving my 6ft piano, and I am making my own skid. I also wanted to make my own cart dolly, but I wanted to make it larger until I remember about the ramp. If you can give some advise about how to maneuver the ramp part. Since the angle would touché the skid. Thanks man.
@StumpfMovingandStorage11 күн бұрын
We never recommend moving a piano by yourself. Always hire professionals! To answer your question, our ramps are long enough so the piano board does not catch or drag. If we come into a situation where the board might catch, we lift slightly at that point to avoid any dragging. We call the dragging, "cheese grating". 🧀😂

Does the piano board not mess up the stairs when you slide it down them?
@StumpfMovingandStorage21 күн бұрын
It's hard to see in this video, but these are industrial stairs. These stairs are built to withstand much more than a piano board. We had a layer of wax to counteract friction, preventing any damage. With a layer of wax the board is able to slide freely. The wax also prevents any damage to these industrial stairs. If we're moving a piano in a home with hardwood stairs, nice carpeting or, a runner we would use floor coverings. It's important to do your due diligence and check the floors for previous damage prior to moving a piano. If you need any floor coverings, use them as needed when needed.
@MatthewPar21 күн бұрын
@@StumpfMovingandStorage Thanks for that information! If doing it in a home with hardwood stairs or nice carpeting, what do you use to protect them?
@StumpfMovingandStorage21 күн бұрын
When it comes to hardwoods, we will double up on our moving pads. With carpet we could typically use rug runners or burlap pads. We want to take extra special care of any hardwoods.
@MatthewPar21 күн бұрын
@@StumpfMovingandStorage Thanks! Have you ever used neoprene floor runners? I would think that the board would get caught on them.
@StumpfMovingandStorage21 күн бұрын
Great question! We use neoprene floor covers when rolling the piano across flat surfaces. For steps, we use the floor covers that are cloth, similar to drop cloths.

Impressive! Did that do any damage to the piano board?
@StumpfMovingandStorageАй бұрын
Thank you! Waxing the piano board helps reduce friction and makes it easier to push the piano up stairs. It also reduces any damage to the piano board. So, aside from any normal wear and tear, the piano board is absolutely fine. Keep in mind, piano boards are built for moving pianos up and down stairs. We use our piano boards for moves like this all the time, and they hold up for several years before needing to be retired.

This is about as easy as it gets for this type of piano move. The training and experience our professional piano movers have made this move possible. The home owner told us, several other "piano movers" in our area turn this job down once they saw the steps. We are the only piano movers in our region who can tackle an extremely difficult piano move such as this one. It all comes down to training, education, and experience.
