How fun was that! Is that in your living room or a dining room? It’s HUGE! My two girls are in that same cage. The small one that is. They’ve been out twice now. They are really beginning to fight though. It was an impulse buy I never should have done. My boys are in flight cages.

they are SO angry!
@MardensArk3 жыл бұрын
Actually neither are angry. Both were just very excited. Jack (the smaller bird shown atop his cage) was later found to be completely blind. He was missing an eye (it was collapsed from some kind of severe impact - likely being hit or thrown against something), which we of course knew wasn't functional, but we later found his other eye to be completely occluded by a cataract. He is "dancing" in place with excitement. A normal bird would likely be flying around the room but of course he couldn't fly because he couldn't see. Rasa, the Amazon, gets quite wound up. He wanted to get out but since Jack was out of his cage, Rasa had to stay in his cage to keep them from potentially harming each other. At the time this video was made, all three birds were still in quarantine in this room together and had to take turns with "out" time to help us prevent injuries. Jack unfortunately passed away the following December, taking a huge piece of my heart with him. We also lost little Ariel to old age not long ago. Rasa is still with us to this day, and hopefully for many years to come. He still gets wound up like this, especially when he and his "woman" (our own Congo African Grey, Megan) have their daily "out" play time. He's also VERY loud if they are having out time and I move to another room to get work done. His contact calls - designed to be heard across the rainforest - are EXTREMELY loud. He's quite animated, but I adore him, even when he's making my head throb! <3

In 2016, my brother's cockatiel flew into a running ceiling fan and one of its wings got separated. There were no vets in our area. So couldn't do anything to save it. We just sat there weeping while it was breathing its last breath away. Her name was Banana. The memory of its dire appearance still haunts us till this day

Happened to my budgie. Rip banana
@MardensArk3 жыл бұрын
The fan's in the facility are all completely disabled and cannot ever be turned on. The birds do like to play on the one in our main "bird room" by landing and flapping wings to make it slowly spin. NO powered fans with exposed blades (ceiling fans) are allowed in the facility for safety reasons. We are so sorry to hear about your sweet Banana. :(

Hello! Where did you buy this nursery! he's beautiful! congratulations!
@MardensArk3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This flight is actually made from two 5' x 7' flight cages from Natural Inspirations Parrot Cages (naturalinspirationsparrotcages.com/products/walk-in-aviary-large-110-x-62-x-80). The end section of each is curved, and makes up approximately 6" of length so you lose about 1' when you remove those curved sections to bolt the two together, but it's still a very large enclosure.

That is great. They are great friends/companions at all times, but more so during times of difficulty, when we are often isolated. Most humans are there to use you when they need something. Supposedly true friends also disappear! But animals remain unconditionally loyal always to the humans who care for them! Nick Sevdalis Mad Animal Lover Melbourne Australia

How to clean your huge cage?
@MardensArk4 жыл бұрын
We have replaced the floor with hard floor, we use rags to wipe surfaces, a broom, shop vac and scraper to clean the floor. Toys and perches that can come out easily go through the dishwasher.

It's natural browse, for enrichment. They don't really "eat" the leaves and flowers, but enjoy destroying them. Parrots like to shred and chew. This is the kind of activity they would do in the wild.

awsome i just saw the old video , where did you purchase this cage.
@MardensArk6 жыл бұрын
naturalinspirationsparrotcages.com/products/walk-in-aviary-medium-86x62x80 <-- it's actually TWO of these, put together (with the 1/2" bar spacing option). Alone they are 7' long and 5' wide, however there is a curved section to each side, and those have to be removed when attaching them together. Each "curve" is about 6" wide, so when you take off two of them, that shortened it by an entire foot. The structure as seen here is 7' wide and 9' long (7' tall).

These birds deserve it. Must have cost a lot of money to build a cage like that.
@MardensArk6 жыл бұрын
It was about $2500 for both of them (they retail for $1499 each) so we got a good deal. They absolutely deserve it. We try to give them as much space and autonomy as we possibly can.

Gorgeous what do you use for the floor?
@MardensArk6 жыл бұрын
At the time, the floor was carpet (ugh!) and a pain to keep clean. We put down paper but it got chewed up, blown around and the carpet was a mess. We ripped it out and replaced it with a very smooth durable hard flooring that we can scrape, sweep, vacuum and mop. MUCH nicer! You can see the new flooring in the newer videos.

Hi. My diamond dove flies onto the fan. How do I get it off?
@MardensArk3 жыл бұрын
We do recall training with our birds. The littles, of course, are in their aviary and cannot get to the fan. In our 'bigger' birds room, there is an unpowered fan they use as a "merry go round" by sitting on it and flapping to make it slowly turn. We use long dowels to get the birds to 'step up' to get them down, but if a flighted bird doesn't want to come down, it's not easy to convince them. Sometimes we just have to wait until they are ready to go back to their homes. Putting a super-special tasty treat in their home will often entice them to come down and go back.
