What a beautiful piece Miriam, and a lovely idea to recreate the look of an embroidery hoop. As always your composition and design is perfect and absolutely packed with so many different flowers and leaves. Lots of subtle details like two tone yellows, different shapes, sizes and colours of leaves… the very effective and clever way you use a simple tight coil in different sizes and colours to recreate both flowers and berries gives the whole piece a cohesive feel. Mounting on fabric gives it a natural texture too. How creative you are. Just gorgeous. ❤😘

Thanks so much, Orla! 😊 I'm happy that you liked the idea! I loved making this piece, especially because of the fact that I also like embroidery and this was a fun way to combine the two forms of art 💛. Sometimes I wish I had more time and energy to make more art 🙈. Have a great weekend! 😊

It’s beautiful! What size hoop did you use? Other than trimming the embroidery fabric, did you finish it in any way on the back? I’m inspired to try this! Thank you!
@MiriamsQuilling2 күн бұрын
Thank you very much, Laurie! 😊 The diameter of the wooden hoop is around 18.5 cm. And, in regards to the fabric, no, I didn't finish it in any special way on the back side, I just used the glue gun to seal the fabric to the wooden hoop. I think I'm also going to glue cardstock on the back if I decide to sell it.

I always learn from your videos. Quilling has fascinated me since I was a child seeing artwork from the 1890s in a museum. Finally, at age 77 I’ve taken it up. My skills continue to grow as I keep trying new ideas. I have 4 joint replacements in my fingers so I’m learning ways to work with and around them. Quilting is my main love but it’s been nice to take a break from it to play with paper. I appreciate your videos for your vision, techniques, precision and the way you don’t seem to rush just to be done.

Aaah, wow, that is amazing that you took up paper quilling at this age! Very inspiring! And that you're pursuing it in spite of the difficulties in your fingers. Simply amazing! 😊 I wish you the very best ! It's comments like this that make it so worth it sharing my art projects here on KZfaq, so thank you so much for sharing your story! And wow, that's just so interesting that you went to a museum that had quilling artwork from the 1890s 😳. I would've loved to see something like that! Quilting is definitely a wonderful art as well !! I'm so glad my videos are of help to you, Melinda! 😊 Happy quilling! 🌀

Miriam you seem to have an innate sense of design and composition. The poppy is both a dramatic flower with its bright bold colour and black centre but yet humble and fragile and you capture both elements perfectly in this piece. The subtlety different sizes and direction of the petals and the astonishing fine fringing for the centre is perfectly reminiscent of the poppy. And the tall spindly stem suggesting it waving in the wind - just perfect. Thank you for sharing ❤😘

Aww, thank you very much, Orla! 🩷 I'm happy that you liked it! I'm genuinely happy that I could make this flower using this quilling technique, I never made the poppy this way before. So it was a new experience for me! I love how you describe the poppy flower, you're very good with words! 😊 God made the flowers so unique and inspiring and beautiful !

I watch your videos over and over because I’m working on improving my technique as I go. I appreciate that you don’t do the fast speed but that you also don’t do the same step over and over. You showed both the red and green basic shapes once and then gave the strip measurements. A suggestion: please consider leaving up the measurement information twice as long as you did in this video. I can’t read fast enough to take it all in quickly enough. Also, it just might be my old eyes but, for me, there’s not enough contrast between the text and the background. If I were Queen of your fabulous videos I’d use black for the letters. (Black might not work for some people but because this is my comment I’m making it all about me. 😂🤪😊😊😊 And now a question: I love the fringed centers: the texture is so pretty. But for people with arthritis in their hands are there any little machines that can cut the fringes nicely and last? I’ve only seen 2 online and the reviews make me wonder. Thank you so very much for your wonderful generosity in sharing your talents so freely. What I’ve learned from you and a few others has taught me so much. I found 2 very nice books on line; they are great but there’s just nothing like seeing the demonstrations.

Hi Melinda, thank you for your kind words! 😊 I'm so happy to hear that my videos have been of help to you in your own art journey! That means a lot to hear so thank you for sharing it! In regards to your question about fringing machines, I bought a little one several years ago, at my beginnings with paper quilling, thinking it might save me time and effort when I needed to fringe many paper strips. But I ended up not liking it because it wasn't always working well, it started having problems pretty soon and it wouldn't cut well (it also didn't make small cuts, close to each other, like I wanted it to). And I don't know if I remember correctly, but I think it also had a limit to the width of the paper strips, so you couldn't fringe any width you liked. So, I didn't use it any more. I just continued fringing with a pair of scissors. I don't know if there is any other better method (I haven't searched for other methods since then, to be honest 🙈). And about your suggestions, thank you for mentioning ;). I have started using some darker highlights underneath some of the texts in my videos, here and there. I'll see what I'll be able to do in the future. And, in regards to leaving some text more on the screen, sometimes I try to do that more, other times I don't have enough time on a specific frame (because I'm maybe capturing things from a different angle and I move to another slightly different frame, so it would be a little weird to leave the text in the same spot as the previous frame). I'm always thinking that viewers can pause the video and keep the text in front of them however much they need. I do that sometimes when I watch videos online 😉. But thank you for mentioning your preferences in a kind way 😊. I myself don't own any paper quilling books, but I'm sure it must be fun flipping through one, even if it's just for looking at the pictures! I would often study pictures with paper quilling art back when I started doing quilling 😊.
