Really nice review, also very well produced, corographed and delivered. Subscribed after this video so thank you. Made me laugh when we heard both shifted and string noise. Cheers!

Hey Idk if you will still see this. My plan is to go from my tonex to my effects like reverb phaser etc and from there to the poweramp into my guitar cap. Ir sim off ofc, because I use a real cab. That seems to me as you described the closest to an actual effects loop. Would you agree?

Kemper owner here Just bought a tonex one pedal had it for a week this is my opinion. Sent the first one back serious noise as in louder than the signal itself . Second one started off ok and still noisy not as bad . Profiles are good off tone net . Stock one are terrible. Software is a joke terrible layout clunky not intuitive at all . Tweekability is frustrating and minimal. Gate is poor . It is possible to get great tones and bass tones are really nice but the noise is killing me . Kemper very very professional unit amazing software great effects very reliable. Not sure if there anything that’s as amp in the as kemper using the kone/ kemper kab . But obviously it’s 10 times the price . Hopefully I’ll sort out noise and keep as a cheep bass rig for recording the noble and dark glass tone are really quite nice 🤞

Tonex is the better pedal platform hands down. Kemper is a great all in one and has more effects but meh overpriced for what it is and offers imo.

Great video! I dig your sarcastic humor. Do you not use the noise gate? I always have to remove that hum and static white noise, especially from single coils. Anywho... my Tonex is arriving soon and can't wait! Cheers!

Solid demo. But the quality variance between Tonex profiles is huge so… ??

I want an effects loop so I can put my delays "after" the tonex, send the tonex directly to FOH using the balanced XLR, and have it with my delay. I am already annoyed that I can't split the tonex between FOH and a cab because I either have the cab on or off on all outputs.

It's not "nifty", it's a PIECE OF JUNK. It doesn't work with anything except the proprietary software. I've been trying to get this to work with Neural Amp Modeler for weeks, and for far nada. Zip. Zilch. BUPKUS! The only time I even got any sound out of it was feedback. Either I'm doing something wrong or there's some sort of jailbreak this I haven't yet found. But seriously, I'm really regretting buying this thing. Oh yeah, and the tuner isn't very accurate. I still have to plug into my Korg CA 50 to get an accurate tuning.

Is that a J-40? Maybe the most under-appreciated acoustic out there. That and the similar m36.

Hi! I own a clarett 8pre, just like the one in your video, and I recently bought an sm7b. When I tested it, tuned the gain knob to max, I could a hear a crackling noise in the recording. I had plugged the mic into one of the 6 preamps that has the socket on the rear of the interface. Then I tried the other preamps on the rear of the interface and the same noise. But then I tried plugging the mic in the first preamp. The first two preamps on this interface are hi z, and both their sockets are located on the front of the interface. And with those 2 preamps, no crackling noise, the recording was clean. Have you faced this problem? And whether you did, or not, what do you think might be the cause? Great job with the video by the way!

One problem I never have with the ToneX is Latency. In a blind test with a real amp: no one will can spot the difference.

I'm a pretty new HARDCORE Tonex fan. I don't use any of my vintage tube amps anymore--I just made captures of them on Tonex. I just bought a second one so I can run different amps in stereo. Great video.

@gregsteffey1266Ай бұрын
Also that was panned hard left and right. If I bring them in a little even just to -50 and +50, you almost can't here it. So in a large room with a full band, I imagine it will not be an issue.
@gregsteffey1266Ай бұрын
Thanks I just searched this after getting a Tonex one and Full size Tonex. I found some Captures that work well together in stereo and then checked the phase on Logic Pro by recording something with one L and one R. I did it again with reverbs and delay off to make sure reverb and delays on the Big Sky and Timeline were not causing an issue. My conclusion is the phase isn't all of the way out (depending on the capture you choose) but the wave forms don't line up exact. It is noticeable listening if I line them up then undo the small drag I did on one track while it is playing back. Its almost like a double track effect and gives a small amount of a stereo spread. I will play with them next weekend and see if it bothers me. As of now I am okay with it.

Very interesting. I have been wondering about using one, two or none Tonex Ones - haven't ordered one yet. I have been using a Blackstar HT-5R tube amp and a Katana 50 in dual mono wet/dry setup. The Blackstar gets only dry, the Katana gets the wet. I figure that there might be a bit of latency with the Katana but that my ears would interpret the latency as a wee bit of chorus or delay or reverb. In any case, both amps at the same time sounds huge compared to one amp by itself. So I'm wondering what two Tonex Ones would sound like.

Whst you mean to say is that this is a real problem for modellers that use IR capture technology : they capture the entire chain, (even the mic :)). You cannot change anything in this chain after it is modelled, unlike when you use the original amp, where you can add effects between the pre- and power that will change yhe eignal chsin :). (and as a 'bonus', it will not sound like the the original amp, but like the original amp recorded with a mic, a little detail that is usdually conveniently ignored by the manufacturers and YT reviewers ;)

TONEX ONE is nice! Guitar processors can make a big difference in sound depending on the CAB IR you use. actually there are many IR products on the market, but I think DYNAX IR has the best sound. As stated in their product description, DYNAX IR is really fast. When using IRs, the pick attack is sometimes delayed, and it is difficult to add picking nuances, but their IR prevents all of that. It's revolutionary!

Those little contraptions are subject to providing only the tones supplied into it via its library samples (captures) of the guitars used at the time of capture, it's not going to replicate for the buyer to suit if a different guitar is being used replay such...end or report!

Original time bassed effects were studio based & therefore after cabinets and microphones 🎤, so not that much of an issue. Could always turn off the cabinet and microphone models on the Tonex pedal, then buy a separate unit for speaker mic models, perhaps the tonex “one” if it has the speaker & microphone models on it and use that at the end of the chain. What I’d personally like to see is a Tonex Amp Combo for Bassists, and then another one for Guitarists. Always thought Kemper was overpriced. Tonex pedal for £300 - £400 is great. And essentially does the same job. Think one will be on my shopping list.

If you want two effects/amps in paralell but summoned to mono. Could you not just capture them in paralell into a single capture and run it on one unit to avoid this problem? I realise this would not be as flexible and fall apart as soon as you would want to turn one of them of or add other effects in series in one of the paths. For some applications like the paralell overdrive example it should work right?
@JonWrightMusicTV2 ай бұрын
I don't know whether the capture technology works properly with parallel signal paths. In reality though, I think the issue is more that we'd like to try running different amps, to pick and choose and find combinations that work for us - and most of us don't have those amps sitting around to make dual profiles

Isn't Tonex an Actual "capture" not an amp sim? A capture could have been compressed at time of capture unlike the uncompressed Blackbird. Compressed captures might all suffer from the same lack of dynamic range.

It's SUCH a relief for me personally to see all of the complications that come with running 2 sound sources simultaneously finally being discussed in granular detail. I still wish they could implement something like you mentioned that the kemper had which "standardized" the latency so that both sources hit the DAW simultaneously. It was something like that???
@bergsofcanada27572 ай бұрын
What if you use an ABY pedal to split your guitar signal on the way to both tonex pedals. You could use the split pedal to invert phase of your guitar signal before it goes to the second tonex. Then it would be like each tonex is getting a fundamentally different guitar signal. Would that do it?
