Doesn’t work on ‘10-‘12 L322’s at the pick up in the rear, because mine has a smart alternator and that pick up point doesn’t see 14.7v consistently.

I can pump over 60amps of charge through my BCDC 40 amp charger and my manager 30 from my start battery now, so I can top up my 200ah lithium battery bank, in just a few hours of driving. For my needs, I need this set-up.

On my 2010 RRS I have 285/35 on 22” x 10” rims (fitted by previous owner). Tyres need replacement shortly & thinking of going up to a 45 profile with same 285 width for a more comfortable ride. Would appreciate your thoughts on this?
@Overlanding4WDАй бұрын
Unless you change the rim, the ride will be terrible because there is no sidewalll to soften the road vibrations. if you want comfortable. Drop to at least 20”’s with 55 profile tyres and the ride will vastly improve

Sure, take a look on Wikilocs Overlanding4wd - norther Spain route from Bardenes Reales To Luna, is easy, but weaves 50 miles through the badlands. Also look south of Zaragoza, the Monegros Desert, hinders of gravel / sand trails to weave through the farm lands.

I had my 2004 4.4 v8 petrol since November 21 as a weekend car. It cost me £4300.00. I have spent 2k on maintenance including full service to gearbox and engine. Suspension components and a new alternator. New brake pads and a caliper. Upgraded to some second hand 20s alloys and tyres then got the tracking sorted and it has ran sweet as a nut since. Looking forward to a family trip to Norfolk in it at the end of the month

How is it holding up?I assume this is not being used as a daily driver.
@Overlanding4WD3 ай бұрын
Nope, don’t need a daily, all OK, just got the BCDC to charge the aux batteries, took some figuring out, but now pumps 30A to the 200ah battery bank. Combination of a voltage solenoid, and a cool sensor that detects the alternator pulsing and not just voltage, so shuts everything down when the engine stops running, and not on voltage SOC. Will do an update video in the coming weeks, but bust with work etc.

Not sure I can do that, as i sold my iPad mini, that’s the biggest saving, one less device, the tread has been excellent. I use Gaia to map things out, then export them to the tread, so I don’t need both.

I just found your channel and I’m really enjoying your content. Your ‘use case’ is similar to mine in Australia - solo overlanding. From the outset I developed an obsession about weight and taking seats out was my first move before I started. Taking weight off the roof eg RTT and awnings and replacing with a couple of kilos low down is pleasing. I also have my own aluminium section structure inside (as opposed to 30kg drawers). I look forward to more content coming in the future.
@Overlanding4WD4 ай бұрын
Thank you! More content soon, life has kicked in so busy at the moment, but will be posting again soon for sure.Agree on the weight issue higher up, TBH, just not necessary in 95% of cases, but, each to his her own on what they buy and put on their vehicle. GVM is very important, but so many people simply underestimate the weight they add to the vehicle, which will add trouble sooner rather than later. Thanks for watching

I am more than happy that the naysayers poke fun at RRs and all the armchair engineers slag them off at the slightest fault. And why? Because hopefully next week I will be buying a rather scruffy but cleanable 2006 L322 3.6 Litre Vogue with an engine management light on. I have seen the DTC code and I am pretty sure I know how to fix it (ex HGV technician). And the car will cost me £1200, bought as seen, no warranty from a car dealer who took it in P/X. And its got 6 months MoT. But this video proves the point about maintenance be it scheduled or preventative. For example in the USA they buy a car and just run it forever until it breaks down and then complain. Not just RRs but most cars. Its surprising how few US car owners actually follow the maintenance schedules. And the USA is where most RR knockers live!

Would Airtightness tape fix the issue? Instead of taking it all apart? (ive same issue)
@Overlanding4WD4 ай бұрын
No, it’s been tried and failed. The way the heater unit works requires 100 % seal and the plastic tube would need to come out anyway to attach the tape. Might as well fix it properly.

I'm thinking of buying a 2012 l322 but I currently own a lr3 hse , i feel the lr3 is more square in the rear instead of being tampered in the rear, I have built my lr3 into a overland build. I am not sure I agree about the comments on toyota. I also own a yota Fj Cruiser that's really built into an overlanding beast. I love a manual transmission. Mine is a 6-speed manual with a Magnuson supercharger. I own many vehicles, and they all have different driving experience. I hope to find a discovery 2 to build because of the solid axles that give you more articulation. But for me, choosing a l322 vs. a l405 I love all the interior knobs and switches and square look over the modern look of the l405 . The only scary thing about a l322 with the 5.0 510 hp is timing guides is very expensive repair, but l322, you can buy one under 5k 😊
