I remember this video before the sappy music was added. It is a brilliant portrayal of epeé fencing slowed down so that anyone can see the split second decisions that are involved. Excellent!

Got to meet Holly at an NAC event in SLC event and watched her fence. Told her how powerfull the video was for me. I watched my son fence for years and became our team armourer. When he stopped fencing I took it up and loved every minute of it. Wished I had the chance when I was younger, it's the best sport I've ever played.

I'm sorry but american fencing style is horrible to watch... Most of them are bad too
@SARGrEnT7 жыл бұрын
@Devious Doggo For sure there are some greate american fencer. But I think a lot of american fencing schools/clubs don't really know what they are teaching because they don't really have philosophy behind it. Italian fencers alway fence with a lot of blade contact and german are very direct with subterfuge (dont know the word on english) and stuff.But the first I think of american fencers is bad leg work. Are you following a specific style?
@SARGrEnT7 жыл бұрын
I fenced for 12 years, also international tournaments but i quitted a year ago. Sometimes I still go for fun, so if you visit switzerland sometime in the future would be fun to fence ;)

This video has exactly one problem. You never see how fast they are actually moving. Everything is in slow mo to some degree. Other than that it's great!

A word about historical fencing, i am not sure how your " Creative enacting" could compare with REAL fencing ever. I do not know much about your "Sport" but fencing is not about making it look good ( Even though we do) , its about hitting your opponent. As for the "Art" of fencing, for the most part, its gone. Yes, there are those who teach,"Swordsmanship" as opposed to Fencing, but fencing is an Olympic event with athletes that move faster than any SCA member. Yes, Fencing has veered very far from its origins, but in the process has rendered it obsolete.
@Shadow207B29 жыл бұрын
Nathan Milgram Historical fencing is about staying alive. Modern fencing is about hitting your opponent. You see, in an actual sword fight you would be just as dead as the other guy, if you tried what these fencers try.
@joesmith34178 жыл бұрын
+Nathan Milgram "I do not know much about your 'Sport'" Then stfu. HEMA exists for a reason.
@mikebertz8 жыл бұрын
+Joe Smith HEMA exists to preserve the martial application of weapon combat. Yet, it is slow compared to sport fencing, and naturally so because the equipment is heavier and the training of fencers, especially at olympic level, is of a professional caliber. Two different things. Both good
@joesmith34178 жыл бұрын
Mike Ebertz Exactly
@kasienka40097 жыл бұрын
Stop putting everything into quotation marks. I didn't come here to see some HEMA garbage-posts, I came here to see modern fencing. I don't need to constantly see this complaining, the rules have been modified so that some parts of historical fencing stay alive in the sport.

Double kills, double kills, double kills, double kills, double kills and some more double kills. Look up historical fencing instead.
@KevUrbie9 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. Fencing seems to be rather inefficient. Big unbalanced lunges, leading with the head, double 'stabbings'. I don't get it.
@kenshi1985br9 жыл бұрын
sndrp, In fact I rewatch the video and saw only 2 or 3 double kills... To repeat your's master or George Silver's discourse without analysis is bullshit. Fencing is a fucking sport which has its rules, so doesn't matter to the fencer if the thrust kills or if it doesn't. For a double kill to happen both contenders must hit a vital part of body with the minimum impact required to penetrate it. I also think that the historical fencers I already saw by youtube are a little bit clumsy...

What are common injuries that fencers get?
@ne.285310 жыл бұрын
normal sport injuries,ligament sprains and muscle strains are the predominant types of injuries, accounting for nearly half the recorded injuries but it can be bruises too,so nothing serious
@epiccraftful9 жыл бұрын
And then there's that one time when the weapon goes a bit too deep into you.
@ucscfencingclub59579 жыл бұрын
Yeah, most common is small bruises from hard hits, followed by regular sports injuries such as sprained ankles and pulled muscles. It's literally safer than badminton.
@decojje9 жыл бұрын
UCSC Fencing Club Idd, but don't forget the horrible accident in 1982 between Behr and Smirnov. Behr's blade broke during an action where both fencers were coming forward, the broken blade went through the mesh of Smirnov's mask, through his eye orbit, and into his brain. He died nine days later, but this accident was in fact the driving force behind the significant improvement of safety gear in fencing that's why modern injuries are not really serious in most cases ;)

@Thedoctorkirby7 жыл бұрын
The Mean Green Pepper I would still recommend first of all wearing your plastron and then looking into both a heavier jacket and plastron. I've only rarely ever found that fencing has left me with bruises and barring that you simply bruise easily I do think that there is something to be done about you're experiencing pain/bruising. It may be a combat sport but it needn't be violent.

@Thedoctorkirby7 жыл бұрын
The Mean Green Pepper Ah, well, hopefully you enjoy fencing just as much or more. I still think that you don't need to be in pain or have bruises all over yourself though remedying that issue is completely your prerogative.
