Our son loves the sandbox and water table in the back yard! A suggestion for the zip line-connect a plastic swing to the handle so the kids don’t have to hang on to the small handle! Be blessed!

Among those who have acknowledged their autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is Clay Marzo, a championship surfer featured in Sports Illustrated magazine and a national video about surfing. When economist Dr. Larry Summers was president of Harvard, Boston magazine published an article about how Harvard professors and students believed him to be on the autism spectrum and why. Biographers of billionaire investor Warren Buffett have suggested that he is on the spectrum. Interestingly, he is a friend of Bill Gates, also believed by the autism community to be on the spectrum.

Being technical here, but it’s no longer Autism anything or Level 1 anything. It’s ASD, Level 1, 2 or 3. ASD is Autism Spectrum Disorder & it’s no longer called Autism for short. Thanks for this video, we all need inspiration!

What are you going to do if anything happens to both you parents? I have two autistic children aged 10 and 11. I am autistic myself with various health issues. It keeps me awake at night worrying what will happen to my children when I am gone. In the UK is it likely my daughter will end up institutionalised if no one else helps her. Being sectioned with autism in the UK is very likely. I have experienced this myself. What is the American system like? It would be unfair to expect your non autistic children to become carers if that was what you had in mind.
@7AheadfamilyКүн бұрын
Many parents and caregivers ask themselves that same question. What will my child’s life be like when they’re older? I wish I had the answer. I wish I had the answer for my own son, Ezra. Ezra is eight years old and he is still nonverbal. His favorite thing to do is to go into the refrigerator and eat all the cheese. But I do know something that has helped me as a mother of two autistic kids. I try to focus on helping them become the most independent person they can be. That will look different for each child, of course. My son Simon has already Learned to be quite independent. He can take his shoes on and off he can get dressed. He can brush his teeth. He can make a bowl of cereal for himself. But my son, Ezra, we are still potty training him. It’s important to be patient and loving unconditionally with these kids. And the support looks different for each child. Keep loving them and showing them you care about them. Help them be their best Autistic self. Please don’t encourage them to “not act autistic” and please don’t push them to be someone they simply are not. But connect with them in ways they feel comfortable and build that relationship.❤️❤️

I wondered a question 🙋♀️. Do they tend to frighten startle easily. I found my friends child would easily be visibly be startled 😮 like so instantly a loud or unusual sound would frighten her so deeply and physically jump and than just cry 😢. So sad
@7Aheadfamily2 күн бұрын
Great question!❤️ Yes, children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be easily startled by sounds and may have a strong aversion to loud noises. In fact, a 2014 study found that children with ASD had larger startle responses than children without ASD to weak stimuli. Loud noises can be especially difficult for children with ASD to deal with, and can leave them feeling angry and upset. They may react by grimacing or wincing, rather than showing surprise or curiosity. Hope this makes sense!🩷🩷

My grandson does this constantly. Especially when running. And he is always running. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. My daughter just ignores it. I have no idea what to do or say about it, so I just let it happen and tolerate it. But I hate it. I have sensory issues myself, and my biggest one is loud noises.
@7Aheadfamily2 күн бұрын
That is very difficult. I'm sorry. As a mom I often will ignore my children's loudness, but I also understand that it can be difficult for others who aren't used to it, or have sensory sensitivities.
