I feel like the GameCube was a special time for Nintendo's development. N64 games are great, but you can really feel that Nintendo is still getting the hang of making 3d spaces fun to navigate -- camera controls especially. GameCube games feel pretty modern in this regard, while still having the quirkiness of the previous gen

First party Atari Jaguar titles are also legally obtainable in the Atari 50th Anniversary Collection, which is one of the best retro gaming compilations of all time.

Around the time I graduated high school, a friend bought the Jaguar and most of the games at K-Bee toys for like 96% off. She spent $90 for 5 grocery bags filled with Jaguar stuff. Let's be honest. It was bad. Really, really bad. Most of the games look & play like they were made in Poland and the controller was almost the size of the console. What were they thinking!? Still fun after a few beers but I do remember puking because one of the games gave me motion sickness, probably that monstrosity at 4:50. 🤢🤮

The GameCube was less about the power and limitations of the console's hardware. It was all about the fun, impactful experiences you got to have from Nintendo and others

Unfortunately, also one of the more likely reasons for sega's poor performance in the West in the 5th gen, and ultimate untimely exit from the hardware industry. 32x was the wrong product at the wrong time. Misguided.

This very first JP game makes a lot more sense when you consider it's actually in large part based on the JP novel, not the movie. The rafting section ending with a confrontation with the T-Rex, and especially level 4 where you have to find explosives in the maintenance shed to plant in the raptor nests on the southern part of the island, are all elements based on similar events from the novel. Even the bazooka that Alan uses is a weapon that features prominently in the novel but never makes an appearance in the movie.

About a third of the way through this, I think you forgot to separate the games from the console. You didn't really connect the games to why the gamecube specifically made them great.

TG-16 is popular now for the same reason Sega Saturn and Dreamcast are more popular with retro collectors than with consumers at the time. The sort of game retro people like tends to be quirky and nerd focused. The games that sold the Sega Genesis to the mass market were sports games. If you want to play a sports game now, you get the latest Madden. But if you want to play a quirky shooter, TG-16 is where it's at.

My brother and I both had one. So have mine. We only had about 10 15 games. Then we got the Xbox. And we had alot more games. And we could play Halo online with our friends who all had Xbox.

4:52 You know what? Actually? Really, thanks for mentioning that. I can't play many of my older games and systems, except on a CRT. Knowing that a game may induce a "state" warns me off of playing it in RetroArch. Thank You.

1:24 Umm, Yeah, and it starts with the words "7.6 litre PowerStroke Deisel"! Yet, tho, the TG-16 was my favorite childhood system. My base system became my CD-Rom2 system, which became my TurboDuo, which became a collection of almost 200 games... which may now one day become a small retirement villa in South-East France...

I remember at the time people saying that Halo was better than Metroid: Prime. However the remaster of Prime holds up to this day but the same cant be said for Halo. Many of the other GameCube games are like this, they hold up to this day and are better than a lot of modern games. Nintendo makes games that last whereas other companies makes games of their time.

Honestly somehow tg16 feels like pico8 at times. I mean even though they are old, they feel surprisingly fresh and extremely entertaining. Also the color palette of tg16 is imo the best part of it. It just creates the mood you know

One of the most addicting games for the GB/GBC and part of that is how infuriating it can be, allowing you to get so close to successfully evolving/beating Mewtwo followed by soul crushing loss.

I got it at launch for Christmas. Chose the TG16 over the Genesis mainly because of Splatterhouse. Big mistake. Games were very difficult to find and inventory at local stores diminished quickly while the Genesis was gaining traction. Marketing for the system was terrible. Everything from the box art, pack in game, to the terrible TV Sports titles. It could have been successful and I always thought the color palette blew away the Genesis which looked dull by comparison. To this day, it remains an underrated system.

Now let's address the Saturn, GBC, GBA, PSP, PSVita, and soon, the WiiU... You know the WiiU is coming on that list, too... Just a matter of time. The reason is actually simple and maybe surprising to some: KZfaq's algorithm! I'm not kidding. What do you do when there are thousands of other gaming youtubers talking about the exact same things you do? You branch out. You start talking about the Saturn to hit a niche. Before you know it, 25% of all the gaming youtubers had the same exact idea, resulting in them, convincing millions of people that every single device that's ever had a controller plugging into and failed that it was "misunderstood"... Believe it or not, KZfaq's algorithm made those consoles popular. Just like the youtube algorithm created an army of people who now pretend to prefer Final Fantasy 6 over Final Fantasy 7... But this is a story for another day... ^-^

Don't think it was ever sold here in Ireland, but magazines talked about the PCE and it seemed exotic and mysterious. Never saw one until 2019 at a flea market where someone was selling a Core Grafx 2. Should have picked it up.
