Vertuo is a complete rip-off. Normal pod is around 14p and tastes fine. Vertuo of the exact same thing costs around 88p. It's just pure greed that they won't allow other suppliers to used the new patented pods. My Vertuo now just sits in the corner doing nothing and I'm back on my old machine.

I think I know the answer to this, but can you use the auto leveling tamper with the dosing funnel? My breville came with a dosing funnel and I’m quite fond of it. Without it, the grounds get everywhere. I’m not even talking about using a wdt. It gets everywhere just through the machine’s grinding process.

You can change the inner burr on the grinder, so in reality you have many more settings, seems like just a game of numbers. You can also do a longer pre-infusion on the Express/Express impress, you don't mention this in any of your videos when you compare the Express machines with pro!
@craftcoffeespot
@craftcoffeespot Ай бұрын
Fair point on pre-infusion. Probably right on grind sizes too. Over time, I think the OPV change on pressure is the biggest difference between Express Impress, Pro, and Express. The thermojet makes a difference. I spoke to a Breville engineer who was saying their upcoming dual ThermoJet is more temp stable than the Dual Boiler! Anyway, the logic has changed some since filming, but pressure and heating system are very important and very different. I recommend the Express Impress mostly, because self-tamping is just so easy. I also like the Pro if you don’t mind the work and want to steam milk. And budget option is Breville Bambino + DF64 --> that’s what I use now.

I think you are contradicting yourself in this video. You say "stir once and only once", but you've actually stirred the coffee TWO times: once when you first added a small amount of water, and then again when you added the remaining water. When you finished adding the water, you actually stirred the coffee more than once to my eye (more than one circle of the spoon in the press).
@craftcoffeespot
@craftcoffeespot Ай бұрын
You got me - I do stir twice. There was an extra stir at the bloom stage, but that's really to make sure all the coffee is saturated. It's less about the "true stir" that you do when all the water is in, which is more meant to increase extraction once. What is most important is to avoid over stirring later in the brew, because it causes too much sediment to get into your cup

So I have been manually pulling my shot on my breville express. I hold it down for pre infusion 8-10 seconds at 10 seconds I release the button and let it shoot up to 9 bars of pressure but by the time I get 36 grams of coffee I’m now only 18-20 seconds in. Is there a way I can slow down the extraction down even with 9 bars. if I grind finer it will over extract and the pressure will go to high. Any help will be appreciated. Should I let the pre infusion go even longer like 12 Seconds ? Thank you.
@craftcoffeespot
@craftcoffeespot Ай бұрын
I would grind finer. Brevilles run over 9 bars. Also, don't get too hung up on time. It sounds like it tastes good. Some beans can go 20 seconds, others 40. If you want an advanced trick, try modifying the OPV inside the Breville. We have that on another video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5qoo9h2ubDSqo0.html
