I believe that I should have sold my surron after two years. No problems at two years. Crazy electronic train wrecks after two years. Now it gets expensive. Whatever I saved on gas, I am paying for replacement controller. A thousand bucks and it's going to wear out quickly. Add 500$ per year to your budget. I am sick of electric nonsense.

PUT A SWITCH IN THE RESISTOR LINE. If you put a momentary switch that is normally open so all you have to do is push it then when you let go it takes that resistor out of the circuit

This is disappointing. They should never have quoted 87 miles. My dealer even quoted those numbers and I called bullshit, thinking it would get more like 40-50 but now I believe under normal trail conditions it’s more like 20-30. 25% of advertised range. When I went back to the dealer with this info they refused to believe me. What do they care, they got their money right? I surely won’t spend another dime there or buy another bullshit Chinese product when ever I can avoid it.

15psi is still high on a Dirtbike, with regular tubes. I personally run 8-10 psi front, and 5-8psi rear with tubliss, on goldentyre gt216x gummy rear, and gt216aa fatty front, on my Fe501.

I am waiting to drop coin on a controller and 80v 76aH battery for the Ultra. Crazy expensive. Can buy a nice used gasser for the price of upgrading the Ultra. Oh well, there's also something to be said about the experience on quiet electric bikes...and not having to worry about most of the maintenance, or a gas station. The holy grail will be when they can double the current battery capacity and range.

I am new to all of this and am actually looking at protecting my solar array but my mind wanders all over to get full comprehension. If you do this to bypass the breaker, does that not mean that there is now constantly power going to the bike? just not high powered. is it enough power to actually make the bike move by accident?

test at 20° hill , the torque will speak
@emotobros
@emotobros 4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately there aren't any paved streets in the US that are 20 degrees. Testing this on dirt wouldn't be reliable because of wheel spin and even on the street at 20 degrees you'd likely be testing your ability to not wheelie off the back more so than the torque of the motor.

I think the benefit of the KO motor is that it can handle significantly more power. On their site they claim 35 kw peak. I’ve heard different numbers for the stock surron motors but most people seem to agree it can’t go over 20 kw.

Great video I've been debating on this set up. One thing I'd recommend trying/comparing and correct me if I'm wrong but of course do you have exact gearing set up ratio? If so my main concern as I instantly noticed the wheels.... If you want the BEST scientific approach to truly see I'd make sure both rim AND tire dimensions are the same as you mentioned his "mid pull" on the drag could come from a slightly higher top end due to a higher ratio roll out on wheels/tires alone 1/8 inch can easily Make that pull happen providing higher top speed. Rotational weight as well (weight lbs x 3 it adds up on rotational force of outter rim/tire weight) Shoot chain ring and heavier chain can make small differences but when you have 3 or 4 things that are different it can certainly add up (check psi too so rolling resistance is equal as can be) one of you may be lighter toss a backpack on with weight 😂 hey who knows?! But overall great video for half the price I'd say its a steal value wise you tighten up these things and I guarantee apples to apples would be very minor considering stock motor was MADE for that frame specifically. For someone who doesn't have the $ to drop on new bike it could be a great build for sure. Fyi- if his wheels are slightly heavier and taller and if he weighs slightly more it could be why his amp draw is higher giving him that extra pull. Resistance ultimately will force more amps to be drawn allowing that power to pull away with ratio. But anyways great job 1/2 price and that close of a comparison I think I made my choice thank you!

One last thing... Tachometer to measure rpm on motor while on a stand then divide the count by voltage now you got yourself KV 😊

The KO is a significantly larger motor so it makes sense it’s going to be slower to spin up lol. The only area it excels is pushing high powers and sinking heat…
@emotobros
@emotobros 5 ай бұрын
This is a valid point, but the inertial forces of the bigger stator should have minimal effect in it's 'spin up' time relative to the rest of the rotating mass in the drivetrain. Additionally, the slightly lower KV value should help with this. We agree that it does excel at high power and heat management relative to the stock motor.
@electricsnut
@electricsnut 5 ай бұрын
@@emotobros Im not entirely convinced it wouldn’t though as we’ve seen by just replacing a chain that mph top speed increases by a few mph and we need to take into account that this is before gearing etc. From what I remember the stator was almost twice the size? Might be possible to compare the motor spin up times without a load not easy though and at the end of the day you have your results anyways :)
@emotobros
@emotobros 5 ай бұрын
@@electricsnut That's true, but the top speed increases are due to decreased friction which increases with V^2 so that can cause a significant difference at high speeds. I suppose even if there is some increased inertial effect, it is what it is and it should be considered a down side for off the line performance. There is certainly a market for those who need high speed, rpm and thermal management.

Does bypassing the discharge side considered a negative than a positive in the battery world ? I’m noticing brands like chi batteries does this and I’m wondering if this is considered to be looked down on, I would assume you would need a bms on the discharge side to keep the battery cells healthy
@emotobros
@emotobros 5 ай бұрын
Bypassing the discharge side is not ideal for a lot of reasons but the main one is safety. Companies do this so they can use a small BMS just to balance the cells while charging while not needing a massive discharge BMS to keep up with the claimed amp ratings which means more space for cells. This basically leaves you with a fully unprotected system which is fairly dangerous. The BMS plays an important role in disconnecting power from your system if things go wrong.

Im learning that the bigger tire is a huge cause for grinding to a stop due to mud. There has to be a warning that the tire being that close to the chain SENDS mud into the smaller sprocket which jams it to a stop. Apparently a chain guard may solve this but it has to guard the part the tire is near!

Hmm, haven’t experienced this yet and I have been through some pretty serious mud. What makes it stop?
