Great video, thank you for sharing it with us. I have a full size 21 foot off grid single axle travel trailer that fully loaded weighs 5,200 lbs. I live in Texas and I 've been wanting to take the family down to PINS and do some fishing, my concern is that the trailer might get bogged down. I tow it with a Power Wagon so I've got lockers front and rear as well as a winch so I'm not concerned about getting unstuck I just don't want to have winch my rig out out every mile or two. It looked like you had no problems with your Opus, in your experience what do you think my chances are of getting my trailer down to East Cut?

The driver is ultimately responsible for their vehicle and accepts the risk of getting stuck when taking it on the beach. Being a Good Samaritan is great, but otherwise the driver will spend 100s on a wrecker service. It is ethical to accept payment in exchange for the service at an agreed upon price prior to being rescued.

I think it’s bad that they cut off access…all for protecting the environment but it seems like it’s always at the expense of access but at the same time they have no problem allowing for another hotel or resort or space x on the beach

Heat strokes don't sweat. Thats the main big symptom, you were definitely sweating. Heat exhaustion is what you experienced.

Again i think you mislabeled these videos. PINS is North Padre Island. I do not see any roads on beach on South Island...

I keep seeing south padre on your videos. Is there another pins on the south island. I'm only aware of PINS which is the North island.

I got screwed at PINS and screwed up a transmission sensor on my jeep. Which is on backorder and no jeep for 4 weeks now. All because I was going through a soft spot at PINS and some idiot was stopped with a dog that ran right in front of my car. Making us stop in a very bad spot. I'm so missed at those people. Lady gave me an ugly look on top of everything. If you have a pet and near an offloading trail keep him on leash or at least hold him back... those people and dog have literally screwed me up for a month. Still no jeep too so it's not over.

Don't you mean North Padre Island. If you are referring to PINS it's the North Island not south.

I think the guy needed a better tire gauge. I helped a couple out on Ocracoke Island the other day. A nice VW SUV got stuck about 40 feet from the end of the ramp. The guy needed encouragement to use his tire gauge and to remove the sand piled up in front of his tires. He drove out after I encouraged him to go lightly on the pedal - to drive it like he had a raw egg between the pedal and his foot.

Great video ! your rig is really cool love those wheels the color matches well whit the truck , this old GX's have very little mechanical issues i think for my experience the mayor ones are the valley plate leak , secondary air system aka "Limp mode ", and timing chain cover leak , the secondary air system can be easily fix at home GXBOB have a video about it , for the other issues is just best have a really good mechanic and cash on had because they are not cheap to repair the rest is just commonsense maintenance and this trucks will run long time , my advise to any one buying one of this trucks will be check this issues first.

So I'm somewhat of an overland minimalist, you AWESOME CAMPER is making me rethink that :)

Hey brother I do like your rig the issue with the GX is horse power that trailer weighs 3000 lbs and it is tough on your truck. Might have been a bit easier with a bigger truck. Not sure what the max towing is but I am guessing around 5000 lbs. I go the island all the time and the couple times I've taken a trailer thankfully I haven't had any issues. But I do drive a newer Tundra. I'll see you out there one day, we go often. I am looking into the opus 15 myself!

i get what you mean with the mechanical issue. i live in Kuwait in the Middle East so basically 50-55 degree hot soaring weather. Also, winters can go as low as -1 degrees cels. i have a 2012 Toyota sequoia limited and it has about 240,000kms. About 149000 miles. And it has that coolant leak issue. Also, one of my good friends has a 2013 Toyota landcruiser with the 4.6 v8 you guys don’t get. basically a detuned 5.7 that the sequoia gets. And it has about 260,000kms on it and it just started having the coolant leakage and stuff. it’s all about age ig. but he has installed an iron man 2.5 lift inch on the landcruiser. and ever since, it has been acting up in terms of heating issues with the gearbox and engine whilst idle. but, i think it has to do with our soaring weather lol! nevertheless, Toyotas do well here in the Middle East

I drove down PI recently (Toyota 4R TRD Premium). Two questions - can the tide catch you even if you tent at the dunes? How do you watch out for high tides and can my regular height (T4R-TRD) make it all the way down (mile 50) the beach? Everybody seems to have lifted vehicles.

Just got back from a camping trip at Mustang Island state park. One thing to add and almost ended by trip in the first 30 min was not having the right tent pegs/stake . You need pegs for sand otherwise your tent will just fly away . Luckily someone from the group had them as they camped on the beach before
