Very good explanation and overview. I’m planning to do this on my next build and experimenting a bit on my current build. Thank You!

To get a SUPER SHARP razor blade, buy, or better make yourself, a small strop. Can get small piece of leather, n small 1 or 2" x 9"or so, sanded scrap piece of wood, at any craft store (eg Michaels ect). Stick the leather (cut to size of wood) to the wood w double sided tape you already have. DONE. Strop (or stroke) razor blade EDGE TRAILING, both ways on leather strop. Will make and keep your blades a whole other level of sharpness. Thanks for the great video!

ps that same strop, w some green or white compound you buy on Amazon, will also take your kitchen knives to a much higher level of sharpness.

Best video I've ever seen in underwrap! After this, do you put on the epoxy and then wrap a guide on, or wrap the guide and then epoxy the whole thing at once?

EXCELLENT WORK! I need to remind myself to NOT trim the nails on my index fingers - much easier to push those threads snug when there's a little space between them. I do believe women are better at this kind of fine detail work, thanks to fine motor coordination skills and smaller slenderer fingers. Oh, yeah, and better color perception compared to males who have fewer "cones" in their eyes and tend to be more often color blind compared to females. Hey, ever seen Dad (or yourself) wearing one dark blue sock and one black one? Maybe women are a bit more patience too.

I had just picked this up as a way for the family to tell who's rods belonged to who. I began as just adding a bit of thread color in front of the reel seat and some place before the first guide foot. Boy oh Boy what a rabbit I went down. I have since made my own power wrapper from a thermal cup turner for crafters of custom yeti cups. It has become as my son tells me, a severe addiction / hobby. Just stumbled on to your video ................. that made the light pop on for that ah-ha moment. Now I get why everything I did never worked regardless how I went about it. I was just spacing everything based off what I measured the rod at half way to the end place where I was going to finish it off at. Threads always piled up at the thinner end away from the reel seat. Sorry for the rambling Thanks again - for the shazam moment !

Beautifully demonstrated. However it took a moment to understand part of your prep was wrapping the handle with cork tape first. Now, regarding the paracord wrappings and real world fishing. Are you sealing the paracord to prevent any absorption of fish residue such as blood and slime that can create a breeding ground for odor and bacteria? Your trimming the cord before pull through carries over to regular thread wrapping where the end is pulled through to emerge the wrap for trimming. It would theoretically eliminate that final step of reburying that end and burnishing over. And have you tried gloves to prevent the physical damage to your hands you described?

Try this tip instead of using double sided tape try Gorilla Tape it sticks for ever and it does not lose it sticky like double sided rod building tape. first wrap masking tape around the blank that you are working with making sure to put the tape on at least the same width as the Gorilla Tape like about 3 inches and leave the tag end of the masking take hanging off the blank it will come in handy at the end. Now wrap the Gorilla Tape around your blank one full time over lapping you Gorilla Tape by about a inch. After the first wrap of Gorilla Tape is done just reverse the Gorilla Tape back around the opposite direction and cut the tape and you now have double sided tape the is much stronger and the tacky last. Please make sure to not cover over the piece of masking tape the is handing off off the blank because that is what you will pull on to remove the Gorilla tape once done.

So your not supposed to flatten out or pull the sections of blue cord running parallel completely tight? They look rather loose if my eyes aren't deceiving me. Seems like it would be getting snagged alot of different things.
