Yeah its very different, it suffers a bit from the lack of progression that some superhero rpg's share. but the way it has you define the powers really opens up creativity in the gameplay department. At least thats my take on it. Thanks for watching!

@@northsunTabletopGames I kind of like it to be fair, oddly enough it fits the genre better than it would in a standard fantasy one. In superhero comics, most of the time heroes aren't actually getting stronger as time goes on. But they may undergo significant changes, like when Spidey got overtaken by Doc Ock. That's the kind of "progression" the game wants to facilitate, as rather than adding on to your skillsets, the game encourages you to change your powers/principles/abilities to reflect what your hero has undergone in the story arc you just finished. You're not strictly getting stronger, you're just changing and that is just as interesting imo despite our innate desire to "level up" as it were. I genuinely think it's kind of genius, because it IS true to comics. When you think about it in terms of true linear progression, all those Marvel and DC heroes gain overtime is experience, which is also reflected in this game in the form of the issue collections. And they do make a significant difference as you get more and more of them, raising your average numbers by a good amount. Not to mention the hero points you gain from previous issues to affect the next session. It really is creative the way it tackles this.
@northsunTabletopGames
@northsunTabletopGames Күн бұрын
Yeah I like it too, I was more thinking in general terms that for some groups the progression may be a tough sell for folks who really like to upgrade their characters. but with that being said, i do think it would be easy to houserule a progression system using the die tiers or setting limits with how many powers qualities, etc during character creation. dont get me wrong though its a great game!!

Awesome, I really enjoy the essence 20 system, I've been GM'ing GIjoe for a while now with my friends, we have done the pitt mission, emerald oubliette and now working thru the operation cold front module. It can definately use a 2nd edition with some refinements but its still a fun system!

Great playthrough....question - you were switching between the mornningstar and fists when fighting the Vorleg, is there no penalty to switch weapons? What did you do with the morningstar when you used the Fist magic? Drop it on the ground? Maybe the Fist weapon is only one handed?
@northsunTabletopGames
@northsunTabletopGames Ай бұрын
Switching weapons does cost a standard action, however, using the infernal flame is also a standard action and the morning star is one handed. so I don't think there is any penalty in that case. at least that is my interpretation from the rules at the bottom of page 66. Hope that helps! thanks for watching!

@@northsunTabletopGames Im now first playing Gambit. Some effects are preaty confusing, for example Royal Flush.. i interpretate that its geave me 1 counter before dealing damege so i use it immeditely to add more to this attack, but after reading abaut it on Bgg, card that add a charge counter is resolving after Gambit inerrupt. And what abaut Limim Counter? Can i have more then 3? Thats easy to gather it
@northsunTabletopGames
@northsunTabletopGames 2 ай бұрын
well first I am not a rules expert :-) but here's my take. Royal flush, you dont use the counter you get for the attack. after the attack is over you should have 1 counter left. not sure if i did that in the video or not. You can have more than 3 counters on the card but you can only spend up to 3 on an attack. hope that helps!

I know I'm doing some thread necromancy on your videos, but I'm just getting into the game and I'm finding your videos very useful to get my head around the system. Her unflappable poise is always on and makes all melee attacks against her have trouble, and defense stance gives double trouble, but she would lose that when Zemo steps back. Her slow motion dodge does give trouble on ranged attacks against agility defense, but it is a reaction. It looks like from a tactical perspective, as soon as Zemo responded to her first snipe with a reaction shot, her best bet would have been to close the distance. It also seems like a flaw in the system that return fire has no range component. I would say it should be range 10 like most ranged attacks, so sniping would be out of range of return fire. Thanks for all the content!

I'm enjoying your walk-throughs, but my pedantic self cringes every time you do math wrong, forget to double damage on a fantastic success or forget to add edge... :P" Don't worry, though, you probably did better than I would have juggling all those characters and shooting a video. Thanks for this! Quick Question - how do you find status stuff like stunned and paralysed? They seem to be a bit OP and can lock out characters if done every turn in them
@northsunTabletopGames
@northsunTabletopGames 4 ай бұрын
Hey! I'm assuming you mean fight status stuff? Stunned you are kind of out of luck if a power puts that condition on you but it only lasts 1 round. for other status effects like grabbed pinned and paralyze you can use the Escape Reaction. As soon as a target is hit if they have a reaction left they can immediatly use the Escape Reaction to attempt to break out. Also for paralyzed it looks like they are going to errata the paralyze from some of the spider powers from a 20 down to an 18. That may help as well!!! The other thing to consider for Stunned as far as i can tell, is rules as written you can still use Reactions. Thanks for watching!
@mentalsynapse
@mentalsynapse 4 ай бұрын
I missed the bit about still using reactions when stunned! That makes it better.
@northsunTabletopGames
@northsunTabletopGames 3 ай бұрын
Ok, here's the thing... I was looking on the discord and I saw some conversation about reactions are included as a part of being stunned. I couldn't find anything concrete in the core book. but when I looked at the status page. the unconcscious status also sais you can't perform actions. So I have to assume since it doesn't call our reactions specifically that those are considered to be part of an action. so looks like being stunned may actually prevent reactions as well.... Would be curious to know anyone's thoughts on that.

Nice game. Though couple things I noticed. Wolverine should’ve attacked for 4 on the boosted attack from Jubilee. The weapons runner should’ve attacked the turn it came in. When you played track by scent when Wolverine was confused, the card would have no effect and removed the confused condition from you. Kinda like what you did when you played Precision Strike to get rid of stunned.
