I am learning that I too regulate better when I can satisfy that interoceptive need asap. Not just eating or drinking but other things also. The signals are usually missed by me and so when the need arises, it must be fulfilled immediately. Its only through routines that I can ease these pressures somewhat.

On the topic of picking a favorite, I think it depends on if one is passionate about that particular subject. For example, I love reading books...if they are able to appeal to my interest. I can absolutely name my favorite book series: Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. And while some series come very close, it has remained on top. I can even name my favorite character in the book without much thought. But if you were to ask me what my favorite color is, I would have to think about it. I have to consider not just what color, but also what shade or tint I prefer. For example, Crimson vs Scarlet. I would need to look at every single variation of a color to pick out a favorite.

Do any other autistic people always need to sit with their back to the wall and a view of the doors when in a restaurant? Not sure if this is my autism or my anxiety lol

I was just diagnosed yesterday. I'll be 43 Saturday. It's crazy the flood of emotions I went through and the acceptance I feel like I can better give myself now that I know where so many things I have daily stem from.

Your point about marketing is spot-on, and is also why I deeply distrust everything you have said. I get the impression that you are lying about free content in order to phish for information and to promote your paid services.

I get angry and snap at people… 🥺 I wish I could find a way to internalize it more. I don’t want to get angry or yell… I just need a minute or two to transition from one thing to another, but no one seems to understand that. 😞

Yup yup I wrote up 16 pages for my clinical geneticist for my EDS diagnosis. He asked to keep it, to put in my chart and then told me he wished all of his patients were so well prepared! Thank you so much for this comprehensive breakdown, it helps so much! Cheers

Holy hannah! We're in each other's backyards in DFW! Good to know! As I am looking for an adult diagnosis and maybe you could share how you obtained yours!?! I'll look around your KZfaq videos to see if you've dropped that Dr rec in any of the video descriptions! It's exciting because it makes it feel so much more attainable to me! Thank you for putting yourself out there and sharing all of who you are with all of us! Cheers

I'm an AuDHDer, and a lot of us don't like when someone says HIGH FUNCTIONING or LOW FUNCTIONING Autism. We know that it IS a Spectrum however. I am 52 and I have A LOT of stress/anxiety. I also believed this was "normal".

"Made your cats highly sensitive?" Yikes, I could see the divorce from here! Sorry Miss Lady but you missed a big red flag in your relationship. Tbh, I'm in the same boat - my hubby tolerates a lot of my differences rather well but who can say how much of that is loving me & my differences versus tolerating irritating differences ok? I've been dribbling awareness to him for the last nine months to test the waters with this cuz despite being married for 22 years, asking for new and random accommodations from your spouse who's been stretching his own tolerance for yrs may be the last straw on the camel's back : | I don't think this is the case but I am keenly tuned to relationship stress since we've been together literal decades. So sorry to hear about your recent divorce! I'm hoping with yet another weird diagnosis my hubby still loves me and is willing to tolerate all my differences well. Cheers

I have a shelf of chips in my room. When I let myself snack, it makes room in my head, so I can feel my nutrition levels, and decide what and when I should eat something more healthy. I use chips for stimuli needs and gum doesn’t work as I also need the swallowing sensation (plus my stomach isn’t big enough for anything with more volume as often as I need to “scratch this itch” as I like to say) And I have my more normal meals for nutritional value. I make myself at least eat one hearty meal a day if I don’t notice and hunger, Otherwise I make smaller meals whenever I do detect hunger. I have a preference towards microwave Orange Chicken, and or Chicken and Rice bowls. If I have little help in the kitchen, my top favorite is to Take a Beef Roast, cut it into slices, and pan cook it into steak. My family calls it “poor man’s steak” as it’s much cheaper than actual steak. I also find the chunks of fat on roast, and also steak, greatly improve my cognitive functioning. To the point that it’s very noticeable when I’ve gone a while without any.

Also I’ve been losing weight, as I’ve found that it’s more stress related. So I went from overweight to underweight in about 4 months, with little to no change in diet. That was about a year ago now and it’s holding steady. (Though my doc is still a bit worried about the drop)

It breaks my heart when I hear people say late-diagnosis is a “trend;” they discount the amazing relief we feel after so many years of internal turmoil and self-punishment. We deserve the GRACE and peace that comes with self-discovery!

I got completely dis-regulated yesterday. I thought I was going to the duty doctor for a quick visit & would probably be given a puffer. Instead I was sent to the emergency department and was there for over 6 hours, with monitors, x-rays, lots of blood work etc. not to mention all the bright lights, noise, lots of people. Came home overwhelmed and exhausted 😢

My partner (ADHD) and I (probably autistic) invented brunch and linner for our weekends and homeoffice days, which are mixtures of breakfast and lunch, and lunch and dinner. It works better for us. Around those main meals we eat together, we will have snacks like fruits, granola bars or a small bowl of cereal. And we have gigantic water bottles of 1.5 litres volume which have to be emptied during the day. With them we do not have to get up to get something to drink and we will make sure that we will stay hydrated. With some added peppermint leaves it is still healthy and not 'boring' to drink at all.

Hum...the amount of recently diagnosed and who knows how many undiagnosed makes me wonder: What if most humans are neurodivergent BUT most of them only have one neurodivergency that they can "hide" even from themselves by acting like others without knowing others are doing the same?...

The only thing I don't relate to is wet hands. Now, getting my face wet is another story. Also, I love showers, but only after I'm in the shower. The only reason I watched this video is because my adult daughter wanted me to watch this. I'm sitting here in tears. My whole life (53 years) I have wondered what was wrong with me. Now, I'm going to have to reevaluate my whole life. Thank you for making this video ❤

my family go on hikes a lot, and it's (usually) cold on the top of mountains. so when my grandma asked me if I had a hat, I thought she meant a warm hat- i.e. the kind of hat she refers to whenever she says 'hat'. turns out she meant a sun hat, but because she didn't specify I ended up with really bad sunburn :(
