Honest to god forgot I was watching a smaller channel's video, production quality is great and your takes were really multifaceted and balanced. I do think though as someone who plays a lot of competitive games and first person shooters specifically that it will take insane amounts of effort and quality for anyone to build a solid following in the market right now. As we've seen with the finals, splitgate, xdef and all these other games that usually get super big for a bit, everyone goes back to their normal csgos/valorants/apexes/overwatchs and the new game falls into a niche/obscurity
@DomWoodКүн бұрын
neat vid, didn't really expect to see coverage of this one the game's Not Bad - it's fun enough at the core level, and it has some legs in how it ticks overall - they've put some real thought into it, but as a game designer it kinda rubs me the wrong way - you see it a lot with these types of smaller, new-studio-first-game type situations where basically they've sold the proposal to investors based on market factors and then they struggle to really identify a coherent, structural game and instead rely heavily on importing concepts and slapping a veneer of 'DIFFERENT we are DIFFERENT' over it, kinda without realising that's what they're doing. part of the sheer value in established, experienced studios is that the production process _itself_ is established and experienced and coherent. it's very VERY hard to execute that production expertise in a new studio straight off, and most that do succeed either focus on an extremely coherent, almost minimal product or spend YEARS refining the game until they've established that expertise. you can chuck together a bunch of incredibly talented, experienced staff - but that doesn't mean they'll make a good game without an expert production process. fragpunk does have a fairly decent relationship with individual ideas and concepts - like the overtime mechanics are really neat and I like that approach - but I think this one's probably gonna just fall over if/when it fails to really cohere into a Game(tm).
@krucialFPSКүн бұрын
I totally agree. It has a very "What's popular right now?" feel to it. The card mechanic is very obviously just an attempt to differentiate themselves from other FPS games. It's possible the game will gain an audience, I'm not sure though. We'll have to wait and see
@DomWoodКүн бұрын
I do wanna say though, this is absolute golden age for small studios and for the sheer BREADTH of games being made - it's becoming really viable to make new games, to try and step on the Big Boys' turf etc, and I am pretty delighted to see games like fragpunk shooting their shot and it not being treated like a laughingstock in contrast to megafranchises and the 20 year old nostalgia-warped expectations of a frankly unhinged customer base (i love my players but it's like loving a rabid honeybadger). we're really getting into such a rich tapestry of games and meta/subgenre stuff that allows us to experiment and offer more and more detailed, individual and nuanced takes. fragpunk's trying to be ambitious and thoughtful and to deliver a complete game that has a future outside a flavour of the month moonshot, and I respect the absolute hell out of that.
@DomWoodКүн бұрын
@@krucialFPS it's a real, real struggle finding 'identity' for a game - it's part of what makes valve products so definitive - their approach to production enshrines certain things that channel their games into the right places. I don't blame em for feature vampirism and the classic 'we're grab-boxing stuff we've seen in whatever's trending in the market and throwing it in' because at a key level it's a director and producer duty to control and identify the _correct_ ways to steal from your forebears and your competitors, lmao.

I don't like when people say AAA studios lost touch, they didn't, they just market for a broader audience that wants different things. It's impossible to satisfy both the harcore players and the casuals. It's not that these devs lost touch, it's that they're trying to make everyone happyish which means nobody really gets what they want, but if they don't do that they alienate a big portion of their community.

@krucialFPS6 күн бұрын
That was kind of my point, "a broader audience" implies everyone. Remember when Fortnite first came out? It seemed like literally everyone was playing it. Only appealing to casual players implies you're failing to reach a broader audience in my opinion.
@krucialFPS5 күн бұрын
I would also argue that they aren't even reaching casual audiences well. Even though I am a sweat, I do enjoy casual shooters a lot. But the new CoDs for example don't feel that way to me anymore, especially with how complicated the attachment system is now.

While I'm REALLY not a big fan of the aesthetic and some of the abilities, the lack of sbmm and the promising dev communication has me really enjoying the game so far. If we could get a game like this with the vibe of the recent ghost recon games (another Ubisoft title obviously) id be in love.

The nostalgia. I started watching FaZe and specifically Spratt back in BO1 and it’s been sad to see the decline of sniping on CoD. I get it. How many times can you enjoy watching a quad collat or a 6on head? I seem to have more tolerance for it than most of us who were young teens back in 2012. Shout out to the people still making quality content sniping on CoD.

this guide sadly misses the FPS genre known as arena shooter were people are sometimes flying around at 1000 miles per hours were things such as holding angles or playing overtly passive is just a luxury afforded by slower shooters that came after the early 2000s. I guess i am just abit old tho since those games are mostly dead and if you want to play a similar aggresive playstyle in any game you need aim and reflexes of a robot to even be somewhat viable.
@DomWoodАй бұрын
yeah lmao my problem is ingrained hyperaggression and a desire for mobility born out of unreal tournament, small map halo swat, etc, I just physically can't play slow. in BF4 terms my K/D is kinda bad because I am the guy RELENTLESSLY pushing, charging in hoping that people will follow, eating claymore after claymore, going 1:1 in 3v1 fights and generally playing like a madman. I've ended up at a point post 1000h where I just don't have a choice but to accept that I need to learn BF4's movement tech because it's the only way I can reconcile my playstyle and compete. I do love the game, but the ultimate reality is I need to learn how to abuse it just to try and work around a ceiling on my gameplay that I don't really feel I'm responsible for creating. In general FPS as a genre has kinda pushed me out, and I hate that. Like I think CoD's pivot to movement sucks because it's all so rigid and systemised that you're not really using mobility, you're just cycling through animations because you don't have a choice about how to engage with the game. It's more like quicktime events than anything.
