Great question! You can actually skip the coding for colored font. Just use the tools within the text-box/ Rich Content Editor(RCE). Highlight the text, and us the font formatting tools to change the text color to whatever you want 💕

OK...I am struggling with something and you are so responsive so I'm hoping asking here will get me some answers...I have a syllabus that was created in PPT, I want to embed it into my Canvas homepage. The problem is I don't have Office 365 so I guess I can't get the embedding code. I then opted for creating a page for the syllabus and embedding that into the homepage. That's fine (I guess!) but then I wanted it to be on a tab. Somehow I got it on a tab yesterday but I broke something within the code and the tabs didnt work as expected. If that makes any sense...help! 😩

Hi there! I understand what you are saying! HTML TABS can be difficult when it comes to embedding presentations. I suggest creating separate pages in Canvas first - each page represents a TAB. Then when you have each page to your liking, create a new Canvas Page, add in the tabs code first, then copy and paste the code from each of the pages you created into each TAB section. This makes it easier for you, especially if a mistake occurs. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this! I can explain this more if you need me.

@@arianafox4944 It could potentially! My only concern would be how long you would want the edits to be saved. As long as the students do not Submit the document, their edits will be saved. If they submit, then the document "refreshes" itself for a second attempt. A better option might be a text box entry. Students can submit this assignment over and over again and review their previous submissions a bit easier. Let me know if you have any questions! Hope this helps! Also, might have to do a demo on this now 🤣

Depends. I wouldn’t if the goal is to “share” over instances. Depending on how you share, you could potentially provide everyone with access to commons your course content.

@@forrestfitzpatrick9709 if your district hides this option, create a Sandbox course first (like in step two) and then import ALL your current course content into it! It’s essentially the same thing as making a copy, just requires you to create the empty course first! Hope this makes sense!

Thank you so much for sharing this resource. I was looking around on Canvas as a first time user and I have no idea how long it would have taken me to figure out we have to write HTML code?? I hated how dry Canvas was and came here to figure out how to add even the most basic bit of color and immediately got your videos. I tried to use your cheat sheet as a launching point for some other HTML codes, but even though they appeared in the display screen, they kept getting cleared when I saved. 😭 So thank you for this tested resource. It helped me get the basics in and even though my course is still quite dry, it has some basic functionality and color that I'm quite pleased with.

I was struggling to get a break from section to section so I tried a different method of adding a border- basically the same thing you had, just a different word I got from w3schools, hoping it would help. I don't know what I eventually did to get what I wanted - but I recopied your code in and suddenly it worked. 🤷♀️ I'm wondering if maybe my internet was just bad because my changes did show up in the preview pane, they just didn't save.

This is a great question! I did some investigating, and the attribute to get the accordions to default to 'open' is not working within the HTML editor. I think that it's possible to accomplish this, but unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you yet. I will do some more digging for you!

I have a question about changes to the Google apps integration. I have pages in my Canvas class where I have embedded a video from my google drive, and this year it's telling me that they're changing the way that's going to work. Do you know what changes are happening, and can you give us any insight into how it'll look going forward? Thanks!

Yes, so there is an update with Google essentially. The old Google App is officially expiring and they are bringing in the "Newer" Google LTI integration. This process began last summer and this is essentially the final way. It doesn't mean you can't use Google, it just means that the old way of "syncing" Google to Canvas is different, so some of your stuff that used the old process may just need to be redone with the update. I always export my canvas classes at the end of the school year. It makes it so simple to set everything up the next school year. I have lots of pages and assignments in each module. The only frustration I have is that sometimes my images don't transfer over: I use email banners for clickable icons that I've had to reupload this year. I also have to re-upload my screenshots of the notes the students are supposed to write. I don't remember if I've had to do this every year.

Thanks for this video! Is there a way for a teacher that might be assigning a more open-ended Canva poster (or other) creation project. I'm thinking of having kids in my science class create a poster on the solar system, but I want them to have the creativity to choose their own template - a little less "worksheety" use of Canva. I would like the simplicity of submitting via Canvas and using SpeedGrader. Thanks!

Of course! You have a couple options! You could always attach a blank Canva page in Canvas and have students follow directions to complete a poster. Another idea is having students go into Canva first, choose a template of their choice, and then require them to submit via Canvas File Upload Assignment type! Hope this helps ❤

Hey! Thanks for your question. It depends on the type of Agenda you decide to implement. If you are using the HTML-coded one, most likely YES, you would have to update or re-sync to the live courses. If you used a Google Slide or Canva Slide, then only these slides would need updating. I hope that makes sense! Please let me know if it doesn't 😂
