Every year or so for over a decade I come back to this, and I was just reminded again by the Wicked trailer. Never fails to make me happy and cry at the same time.

Amazing footage! That looks like a huge fish (near 0:18 , a fully grown/adult Trout?) you fed the bird! The fish was struggling, but the hungry Heron managed to fully consume (alive?!) it all okay? It looked like the unlucky thing was desperately kicking sliding down that long throat! I wonder, does the large Trout stand any chance of escaping if eaten in that condition? Maybe it can turn around inside the elastic throat/stomach and has a chance of survival here.

...The A1 is terribly underrated for being a great video camera! It's extremely low rolling shutter alone as well as the quality and image size (and auto-focus!) make it a no-brainer for Wildlife photography and video, especially for cropping... CAN'T WAIT to see the firmware updates Sony has promised for the A1 and A7SIII later this year... Thanks for the video!

Fantastic work from one A1 owner to another! What settings give you the most success in capturing eagles at high speed? Thanks for the video!
@rghurst4 ай бұрын
Thanks! If the bird is moving smoothly and you are good at tracking the bird in the EVF, 1/1600 can work at 600mm as it did here. BUT, I prefer 1/2000 to 1/2500. I almost always shoot the 600GM wide open (f/4). I try to keep ISO below 2000.

How did you shoot this? Cool video!
@rghurst5 ай бұрын
1. Take burst of shots with A1 at 30fps. 2. Open all shots as layers in Photoshop. 3. Align all shots on a common point on the bird. I usually use the eye. Unfortunately, a manual process. 4. Crop as appropriate. 5. Create frame animation in PS. 6. Export to mp4.

Awesome frame animation. Eye alignment post capture edit is one of the best. Almost too perfect
@rghurst5 ай бұрын
Yep ... I use the eye for alignment because it's usually the easiest thing to do, but it does look a little unnatural sometimes. Would be better to align somewhere around the "center mass" of the bird, but that's really hard to figure out.

I am afraid that is artificial. When I make these frame animations (videos created from stills), I align all the images on the eye in post.
