Honestly, I live in Miami and do busyness in the Keys. Keys residents are all rude, anti-social and nasty!! They don’t like outsiders, nor tourists visiting Monroe County!! I’ve seen restaurant waitresses and bar attendants call the cops on folks after they walk to their vehicles just because they drank alcoholic beverages. DUI’s are serious in Monroe county!!!! But if you spend your money with Monroe residents, they will put up with you in hypocrate way. They think they “OWN” that county!!! I don’t recommend The Keys to anyone!! Avoid that rat hole!!!!

Ground water in Florida is not good either. If you come from an area east, northeast, or midwest - you will not have a good time with the tap water in Florida. Get used to buying bottled or buy a good filter

Key West is not fun like it used to be. Takes forever to get there, too much traffic, prices on everything duoer high. And the people are very strange at best.Totally overrated.

The way to handle sea sickness it the prescription behind the ear patches. But the secret is to put them on 1 or 2 days before your sailing. I know thats not helpful with spontaneous events but it does help with planned events. It really really helps

Do not move to the Florida Keys if you have COPD! The humidity will make it flare up miserably! You have to wear the most powerful SPF sunscreen ever even if you are in the shade. He's right about the iguanas! They suck! There are maybe around 2 beaches! That's it! If you are not into boating then just forget about it! The prices are sky high because we cater to tourists! Keep a full tank of gas because if there's an accident you may be stuck for awhile! Only one road called overseas hwy which goes north or south. The sunrises and sunsets are beautiful but I would pack up and move up to more north Florida like Sebastian. 👍 BTW. Watch out for Bull sharks! They're dangerous and very aggressive

Don't forget traffic and idiots trying to go 80 in a 50 zone. There is nothing for kids to do in Key West but doesn't seem like the parents ever research and understand that. There are very few beaches in the Keys, yep they don't research that either. They don't seem to like the smell of rotting seaweed or sargassum. Did I mention traffic from all the tourist? If you buy a home and get it financed you MUST get home owners insurance, wind insurance and if you get wind you must get flood insurance. That runs apx $12000 a year to cover a $600,000 house(just the house value). Mosquitoes, No seeums, Palmetto bugs, iguanas, crocs if you live in the lower Keys and gators if you live in the upper Keys. Bad hospitals. We have tourist season and hurricane season and try to stay on the water and off the roads as much as possible.

Definitely need to tell people the cost of homes and insurance IF you can not outright buy the home. It is not the Humidity sooooooooooooooooooo many people think that it is actually the DEW POINT!!! That is what causes the unbearable real temp feel the moist air or dry air. The No See Ums and mosquitoes are horrendous. The drivers are horrible. People are not that friendly. I personally can not wait to leave and move to the mountains FAR away from people.

Like so many others, you are a temporary visitor here, not a full time resident. The unintentional misinformation contained herein is evidence of your lack of full information about this place. You’re sure most of your information is accurate, I assure you, it is not. The reason I don’t mention specifics is because they are too numerous to mention. It’s innocent enough but you really should get the facts instead of assuming your casual observations are accurate. Spreading misinformation isn’t helpful. Interesting for me as a full time resident for over thirty five years but the facts you state simply aren’t totally so. Here’s one example. I am an avid lifelong gardener. You state that it’s growing season year round because you assume because there’s no frost, things grow year around. Many native plants will survive but gardening simply isn’t achievable much of the year because it’s too hot, the sun is too intense. Plants cook instead of grow. Also, since there’s no native soil, most growing is done in pots which is very limiting. Growing season here is more accurately between November and May. Just one example of the many inaccuracies. Maybe next time you pose as an expert, you’ll actually speak with an expert or have one edit for you?

You promised 9 things, but you began with number 8 and counted down to number 1. What was left out? Maybe it was rising sea levels. In time, most of these keys will be under water. Not good for long-term investment. Isn't there a ban on new construction in the keys for that reason?

Today, the Keys are a retail version of what folks romanticize. Depending on what you're going for, it's from OK to awesome. Been going to the Keys on and off for 30 years, from camping to time-shares, fall and spring. It's not what it was 30 years ago, the reef has been depleted and the water isn't as clear. Most of the iconic places are Corp owned and or have changed hands so many times, they are barely a shadow of what they once were, the Mom and Pop places are pretty much gone. The cost of everything is high and the US-1 is becoming a parking lot. That said, much is being rebuilt and looks good, however, with a notable price tag.

Living in th Keys is expensive. If you need somebody to fix something at your house or your garden its a problem. Nobody wants to do hard phisical labour. And if you find somebody than communication is difficult because he or she doesn speaks understandeble English .

Key Colony water access is unbeatable. We rented for the first time last year in the place you started the video and we hated the 30 minute idle ride out, we had to hose the dogs down because of the heat. And then there’s that creepy US govt island in the middle that always interfered with the XM and put Spanish speaking radio over our speakers

I love how everyone acts like Key West IS the Florida Keys. Key west sucks. I very rarely head that way. Like the rest of the keys, here in Islamorada the traffic is absolutely horrible, the Miami crowd is pushy making it suck more. Add to that the Ny/NJ etc invasion. I think once the boat sells we are out of here. Going to miss the friends and the water, but its gotten really bad these last few years. We really dont get much of an off season anymore, those were the best couple months. I feel bad for a lot of the workers, many have to drive the stretch from Homestead everyday for work, so expensive down here. One more rant. One of the most common complaints that I hear from tourists is that the food is mediocre at best and its all way over priced for the quality. Same with the drinks. I couldnt agree more. Theres a few good restaurants but they're really expensive. We have a locals pub/resturaunt that we go to if we decide to go out. I wont mention the name. There's no view so not too many tourists which is nice. We need tourists obviously, but a break from them is a necessity. Hint: Do not drive into the Keys on a Friday or Saturday. Do not leave the Keys on a Sunday. Dont be in a big hurry, nothing happens fast down here so chill the f out.

So in a nutshell, if you have a big ass boat, if you don't care that the Keys are being destroyed for your convenience so you don't have to stay in a peasant's hovel when you visit there, buy a McMansion. McMansion is a derogatory term, by the way, but sure - gloat about how great it is. Screw all you greedy guts who suck the life out of paradise for your own profit.
