Would not the HAP change your ridge height?
@BasaPete5 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question. Yes, the HAP (Height Above Plate) will change the ridge height, but when using four-inch rafters the difference is minimal. It's always good to fit your first rafter to adjust angles, if needed.

Would 36 inch deck rail be high enough?
@BasaPete7 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question. Typically, 36" is high enough. However, some states require higher railings. Please check with your local building inspector.

Are nails lift proof when for example a tornado passes?
@BasaPete22 күн бұрын

I wish people would quit notching deck posts. Not only is it against building codes in most areas, but it's just all around a weak joint and causes rot underneath the notch. I'm currently redoing three large decks I have around my house to make them both legal and actually strong by using a full post along side the outer joists utilizing two tension anchors per post tied in underneath the deck and using 1/2" carriage bolts. Every post I've removed used lags and when I spun them out they all broke a half inch into the wood due to corrosion. Scary! My posts will outlast me and the deck.

Thank you for adding the part about the left and right skewed joist hangers. I’m drawing up plans for a deck with a necessary angle to keep me a certain distance from my neighbor’s yard and I was scratching my head trying to figure out how I could hang some of the joist in the angled area and remain within code. Glad I found your video. Thank you!

Thank you fort the tip about pulling the posts together with a rope. I used a ratchet tie down and fixed a pretty big bow in one post as a result! So many other great info like how you pre-drill and start the screws. Made my DIY project go smoother than I thought.

how well would thoughs bags work for other uses when not being used for the mower, like picking up garbage or recyclables or just using to tote around stuff?
@BasaPeteАй бұрын
Thank you for your question. You could use them to tote things. However, they are soft-walled and won't stand alone.

Right off the bat you forget to mention that the height of the rafter has to be added to the ridge height... for the ridge to be at the correct height.

Great video! What studs dimension would you use for a 23' long ladder?
@BasaPeteАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment. A 23' wooden ladder is a long ladder. I had a 20' wooden rooftop ladder, but I only used it for climbing up steep roofs. I don't think a 23' wooden ladder would be safe.

Is this doable without impact gun/wrench? I have 1 broken spring on passenger rear. And not sure if the jounces are bad may just get them and shocks in case. After watching ur vid makes sens to just do them all.
@BasaPeteАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Yes, you can do this with sockets and boxed-end wrenches. WD40 or Liquid Wrench Penetrating Oil will help.
@MrdubombАй бұрын
As an auto professional I've never been a fan of this kit, they require you to cut out so much of the old hose they are now too short and you have to replace the hoses to the engine and the quick connect. The clamps are also way too big. Not that they wont work but by the time you are done it looks like amateur hour. A better solution would have been to come out with a system where you carefully remove the plastic clamps, and replace with 3/4 aluminum y-fittings. But unfortunately 3/4 aluminum y-fittings for some reason dont exist.
@BasaPeteАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I've tried to remove those plastic clamps and the only way was to smash them. I agree, there needs to be a better system.

Lag screws into the end grain?
@BasaPeteАй бұрын
Thank you for your good question. Lag bolts into end-grain only would be a problem, especially if no railings were there for extra support. Lag bolts into cross-grain and end-grain, no problem, especially with railings.

How badly would it affect the lifespan of your deck if you didn’t use cut n seal. I did use butyl tape on the joists tho . Very informative video , thank you!
@BasaPete2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Using Cut N Seal should prolong the life of my deck by 10 - 20 years. Of course, it depends on the climate in your area.
