The Swiss invented the quartz watch, but the Swiss watch industry didn’t act on this steaightaway and the Japanese took advantage of this.

at almost 3,000,000 sold and lots of peripherals, i'd hardly call it a fail. the ti99a was supposed to fall in the middle of a range of computers, which were never released, not the low end. i loved mine.

This masterpiece of a research on Korea was recommended to me after two years… Everything here is true and Korea is going to disappear or be consumed by foreign powers once again, never to be free ever again. I think it’s for the best since dogma of Koreans is just beyond hope.

Well, theoretically, socialism may not be as bad as it happened to be. Comrade Lenin determined socialism as society of intelligent cooperators. Basically idea was organize people in a small communes in which everything own by commune and members own nothing and be happy. Everybody working contributing in one common pot lock. At the same time there one huge stock store where anyone can get whatever necessary in certain limits. There is no currency transactions between commune members. Government plays role of arbitrary between communes. Basically it is same old fashion capitalist market economy, the only difference in real life economic unit is a private person, under socialism it suppose to be a commune. And now surprise. There's communes like this existing in real life. And even people really like to live in those. So why real life socialists keep silence on those, continue to push one big tyrannical distribution Government? As I see first all pretty much all of this communes are religious. Another one there are still big families. And what I see as biggest one, there are virtually no corruption. Because small group of people, where ones know each other since childhood, hard to have shenanigans with common budget and resources. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbChhdGgtNSakqc.htmlsi=T_1NJ1-dXDwPJBc3 Not sure do I really want to live in one? Girls will probably appreciate such way of life, because of a lot of socialization. Absolute intravert nightmare.

TSMC will bankrupt since they invest abroad. Abroad workers have not the same willing to work! just willing to earn money! Much more expensive to maintain and also much less work time will be done!

Hi, just a bit context about JZD Slusovice. In communist Czechoslowakia, average income that time was 500CZK, so income 2000CZK was "fortune". Also it has to be kept in mind, that average productivity was very low, plenty of people show at work, but were not actually working, also they could not be fired. So, hardly any intention to carry out actual work. Further more, average person could not buy a house, so, majority actually build them themself, very often during work hours. In JZD Slusovice it was different, people were incentives to carry out actual work, salary was up top and instead of building your house yourself, JZD has build it for you. And JZD was tolerated by regime, because was one of few companies to export goods to "west" generating income of much needed foreigner money (=read as US dollars).

Contrast how Lexus dealt with recalls and dangerous issues, versus how Ford dealt with the issue of fire-risk Pintos. Lexus deserved to be a world beater. Ford deserved something else.

Great video. I didn't really understand why chips on a bigger fab process are more expensive, but once you talked about using smaller chips to 'approximate' to the size of a bigger one, it made sense (my 'aha!' moment) - bigger fabs use more space, so there's less space to make more of them = if it has errors, it is a waste and now you've wasted all that space. If it had been made smaller, then at the least the cost for a bad chip is less. Thanks!

I think you missed maybe one of the biggest points for their success and failure. The Defense industry. They sold the majority of their systems to high end research teams, predominantly in the Defense industry and Department of Defense. They weren't quite a single customer company, but a single customer bought the vast majority of the product. The stake through their heart was the push by the Defense industry to stop purchasing proprietary, single vendor systems and shift to commodity systems. In computing, that meant moving to cheap x86.

The last 25 years of my work life before retirement were spent in SQL. Really liked working with it, especially the ability for ad hoc queries when unexpected information is needed. Periodically management would need some very specific information, and SQL was a great tool for that task.
