Not sure yet on what I’ll do with elderberries. Our blueberries never made it out of our hands. Looking forward to planting many many more. Best of luck to you

I started elderberries, blueberries and honey berries (haskaps) last year in Alberta, Canada. It’s still snowing here as of last week so I’m looking for signs of life. Haskaps look most promising but they’re very prairie hardy. What do you plan to do with your elderberries? I planted a TON so I’ll be hopefully processing in a variety of ways. The blueberries will be eaten right off the plants and likely will never see the inside of a jar or freezer 😋 Happy Spring!

Good job on the elderberries....I have 3 bushes that grow massive each year. I have them in my garden and that was a mistake. They send runners in every direction that I have to prune back. But...also I get pounds of berries every fall, and the pollinators love them!! Noticing the fence behind the berries....beware of livestock also helping to "prune" your fruit.

Your boys should have got you a rangefinder along with the crossbow target. I can hear the excitement in your voice that you are ready to go for this season. Sorry but go PATS after their rebuild we can use another 6 rings. Hope you get a good buck but hey does taste just as good, have fun and stay safe.

I have the same bow and you really need to purchase a better target that’s rated for 350 plus FPS!

Start at 6 yards which the trajectory will be on at 40 (the ark of the arrow). Before you shoot at 40 sight it in at 20. But start everything at 6 yards.

get a bag target rated to stop xbow arrows....saves damaging your vanes or losing/ruining arrows....makes pulling them easier too. shoot matching weight broadheads, good stout mechanicals are easiest to deal with. have fun!!!! if you need info/help, let me know. i've learned a bunch of this xbow stuff by shooting vertical bows and eyesight disability forced me to go xbows or stay home during deer season!

You have valid point. Physically I can’t pull a bow back that will kill. So I’m thankful for the law and if they change it well I guess I’ll have to wait till regular season. Sorta like playing the tax code. Use it while you can and when they change it I guess pivot it and use it too. Thank you for your comment though.

When you get your target get a range finder too. You should have reticles in the scope going from 10 or 20 to 50-100 yards if the scope has a speed ring it works best if you go to the scope max yardage. But yes you need a good target to stop bolts absolutely.

Get one rated higher speed than your crossbow speed. I shoot a new wicked ridge raider 400 decock crossbow. I have a bag target for field points. And a broadhead target also. U will mess the fetching up on your arrows. I wouldn't use tin as a backing. The arrows are 12.00 to 20.00 each a arrow. I just bought a dz of custom arrows. 200.00 plus a dz.

Well since I had never planted these before and didn’t know how they would spread, they ended up where they did. They have been there a while and the cows have never touched them, however I assume the drought led the cows to give the squash a try. Thank you however for your positive comment and especially the “duh” at the end.

Hi, I am sorry about your chickens. In my area (PA) I would for sure think a fox got them. I really wanted ours to be able to free range all over the property but between the year round foxes and in the fall/winter the hawks, I just wouldn't have any chickens left. My chickens have a protected very large area to roam (we call it jurassic park) it is protected by 8 ft farm fence with 2 strands of hot wire running along the bottom where anything would try to get in. Over head we have a spider web of green fishing line that the hawks will not go through. During the day if I am home, they also get to go in our fenced backyard where I can keep an eye on them, the fox have not tried to climb in yet so it seems pretty safe. They know to get themselves in their coop at dusk. I lock them up every night with latches etc that no raccoon can open. The windows have to have really sturdy hardware cloth on them, basically they are REALLY locked up at night~ never have had an overnight problem (thank God). I would say you need to round up any remaining chickens bribing them with treats and get them into the coop and run and keep them in those 2 secure areas for a week to retrain them that the coop is home. If you pasture them I imagine you will continue to have losses, unfortunately we just can't pasture ours like I hoped we could. If you give them veggie scraps and treats to peck at like a cabbage or some frozen watermelon they will get used to having a smaller area to explore. Hope this helps, its what works for me. I lost several of them until I tightened up where they were allowed to go. Your brave rooster probably fought his best for the hens. Sorry again, its a bummer to have losses like that.
