12:37 omj! yes! that catching thing, oi :) also, just put Rotosound 77s on a 5 string, defreted Cort Curbow, my first time using these, they have notable texture, which is surprisingly not painful, and make audible scraping sounds when wanted :) the on-board EQ helps make them as "clangy" or "upright DB" sounding as one can within the given parameters/perimeters :):):) should this information be useful to someone :)

I buy used mongrels, off the beaten path for the most part. With stories. I have an old Tokai Hardpuncher, a really cheap Epi Embassy Pro that's super fun and sounds fantastic. 81 and 85 Ibanez basses, 80 Aria Pro SB600, Hondo II Longhorn... Mostly pawn shoppy kind of stuff. I like their quirks and personality.

Just came across this episode two+ years after you shared it and this is one of the best you’ve ever shared. The topic on practice was great and would be awesome to have you guys revisit this topic.

Don't look at the tag. Fenders find their owners. If you play 15 fender basses 5 from each level you may find they all play different. In that group, you may find the middle of the road is your sweet spot.

Thank you gentlemen. I had spent a good deal of time in the interwebs rabbit holes looking at gear: fretless bass (new pickups/caps/pots/etc.), flats vs round wound, my MTD 5er. I am listening back to the recordings I have of me in the hip band and what is my sound. What IS my sound ... is now my focus for the next little bit. Thank you.

5 String Preci (with flats), 5 String Stingray, 4 String Jazz, 4 String Fretless and an upright for bowing. A second Preci with rounds is also nice.

The D.I. thing is comes in the end as a matter of taste. Tried them all, and for an individual padal-based pedalboard, chose the Nordstrand (Rocket Surgeon) Starlifter, better EQ and faster response than the tube based famous ones. For my multiEFX based system (working cover band), the cheap Behringer Ultra DI-400 is super transparent.

Hahaha, had to look at the transcript, every paragraph has Shaz doing the American thing... at least three unnecessary "like"s. So noticeable if you're not young :-) "never used to double book and now I feel like I go into every day with like the fear of like oh oh God I feel like I D"

I was one of the musos that was part of that community hanging at the Wardrobe, and the Hi-Fi too, after and around gigs. So special to revisit that and listening to how insane this whole journey has been for Scott and team.

It's cool to have bassists of different calibers to "Internet" hang with. I'm not great but dabbling and improving. Love watching you guys. I learned so long ago with a friend and listening to the Violent Femmes. 😅

My personal nightmare was the Yamaha RBX375. Massive, thick unadjustable neck that had a wrong mount angle (a manufacture defect), the sound that easily losts in mix.. Now I think I should have bought 4 stringed Squier Jazz, but what is done is done ) I sold it and bought a MM Stingray 5, It was a huge contrast.

I got an open box Spector performer 5 for $400 red metallic... I really don't need another bass... it came with medium string and passive pickups... it literally vibrates and sits in the mix but can cut.

Some ol' fender/Squier MIJ from end of 70/80 are to consider. They sounds and feel super great (sometimes, they re way better well made than the made in US from those area) and are in the 800 - 1500 $$$ range!
