It's an odd Australian tradition, people that have either never visited Canberra, have PTSD from school trips or generally just think of the place as being only the Government and that's it, take turns shitting on the city and it's surrounds. People I've met that eventually visit (whether for the first time or a revisit later in life) tend to have the same response - it is a quieter city than the other capitals, but there's loads to do if you look for it.

A fun fact about that Australian of the year display. You would have noticed that the signs aren’t in a straight line and they are placed along 5 lines on the ground. They actually correspond to music notes for Advance Australia Fair

Great video! It's so true about not having many free camping spots along the NSW coast. It's the same in southern QLD, and if they are free, they tend to be packed. That's why we mostly camped in paid campgrounds and holiday parks when we traveled from Sydney to Port Douglas in 2022. Maybe it was because it was right after the COVID travel ban was lifted and everyone was eager to get out. I don't know. I'm going on a 30-day trip to Bundaberg, QLD in early July with my mother and my son, and I hope there will be more campground spaces this time. Safe travels!

My advice to people is go on the B18 highway from Ridgley then onto the A10 (Murchison) from where it connects at Guildford, then take the turn off and head in from west to east, it's a longer trip if you're coming from Devonport but it's a better road all the way there, especially with anyone with travel sickness.

Have you been to Bendigo & checked out our population of flying foxes as Rosalind Park? If you’re in the right location around sunset, the fly-by is amazing!

I'm not very keen on the Gold Coast because it's too touristy and restrictive, for parking. Your van is only requiring a normal car driver's licence, therefore it's not a truck or long vehicle it's classified as a car. Anyway, the Sunshine Coast is much better, beautiful beaches plenty of free parking, no crocodiles or stingers. I call it the Goldilocks Zone. Once you get to Cairns, you will love it. I've been living up here in my RV In the Kuranda Rainforest since 2020 to escape Dictator Nazi Dans Lock down and his World War 2 style curfew. PS Best water, fruit and veggies from the Atherton Table Lands. You guys will enjoy Rusty's market, however, Mareeba and Koha Market Is much better value and quality. Enjoy...

I think we got pretty lucky as it didn't seem too busy during our visit but the weather was a bit on and off which may have deterred the crowds! We've since been to the Sunshine Coast and agree; amazing beaches, easy parking and the weather cleared up so we had some incredible sunrises. You're right, we probably would have been fine. We always try err on the side of caution when it comes to taking our van up questionable roads just in case, especially after finding ourselves down a few too many dodgy roads in Tassie 🤣 The Gold Coast's classification for 'long vehicle' is 7.5m so we decided not to push our luck as we're just under that 😬 We are really looking forward to heading north, already have loads planned that way. Are Mareeba and Koha the best spots for produce around Atherton? We heard Atherton was great for produce but haven't yet looked into which spots to go to. We have Kuranda on our list so we may cross paths! Have a great weekend 😊

Because we don't have foxes or dingos, or any other large predators, it looks like we have more road kill, but when you're relying on small scavengers and birds to do the clean up, it looks like there is more than the mainland, but it's not really the case.
