I bought an Explorer Asym Zip several years ago. The stitching, nylon, and zippers are of ridiculous quality, nearly perfect. Even so, I modded it with a DutchWare whoopie sling suspension. With an underquilt, I'm somewhat convinced I have an ultimate do-it-all hammock setup. I can span huge tree gaps, sleep comfortably in nearly all weather, and my setup/takedown is both convenient and very secure. It hangs from the bag and pulls right out, and rolls right back in. Such a fun setup! I currently use the Hennessy Hex Fly but I may upgrade to something lighter. It's quite good as is though. A complete shelter.

@@nERVEcenter117 sorry i took so long to reply but ive been in the boundary waters. that sounds awesome, i love when people can actually modify their setups to make them better. lots of folks just can do it and end up giving up on hammocks (among other things) because its not the way they want it. i dont know what i would do if i didnt have the ability to modify things. do you have a video of your setup?

absolutely but keep in mind, "ALL" locks can be defeated no matter what you do. its all a matter of how long will it take for someone to find a way to defeat a lock. the nuts are locking nuts, so slightly harder to remove without tools. you could add jb weld to the threads to make them nearly permanent, you could damage the threads or tack weld them for additional resistance. you can always do more but again, all locks can be defeated cheers 🍻

I bought my first HH in 2001, jungle expedition, symmetrical, classic. Three years ago I bought the jungle expedition zip. something is just not right, the last few times I've used it, probably because I'm getting older... I'm going back to a symmetrical hammock and moving to an 11' foot hammock. So last weekend I ordered up a Double layer Dutchware, Chameleon, with a symmetrical bug net. BTW, it doesn't matter if your hammock is symmetrical or Asymmetrical, you're supposed to sleep diagonally across the hammock, in an Asymmetrical fashion. Also, with your hammock strung that tight, you are putting excessive amount of force/pull on the gathered ends of that hammock, it will eventually rip out. Try hanging it at 30°, then the force is distributed throughout the length of the hammock. A really good source for info is Shugemery (Shug), Here is one his tutorials... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y6mmnZN6uNDenGw.html
@escapewithjay
@escapewithjay Ай бұрын
i appreciate you thoughts on hanging. ive spent quite a few nights in a hammock and simply sleep more comfortably the way i hang it. i actually had a lengthy conversation with Hennessy about my methods so i am aware of the 30° setup. even since making these videos i have revised slightly how i hang. as you no doubt know, the way you hang changes over time to find you own fit. shugemary even say it in the video, his way may not be your way in finding the sweet spot. i hope you find a hammock that works for you again, it really is the best way to be comfortable in the bush. when i kayaked the entire mississippi the hammock was next level awesome! cheers

@escapewithjay 2 ай бұрын
Hey Adam and Jen! Congrats on getting a couple boats! I hope you guys have a great time out on the water. There is a great group on facebook called Kayaking Minnesota. there are so many great recommendations on there of lakes that I have never even heard of! I know someone will be able to give you a good lake in your local area. As for lake I have been on Bush Lake in Bloomington is a lake I enjoy. it has gotten really clear over the past few years and the fishing is great (most the time). Its just the right size lake for an enjoyable paddle. I am a real big fan of paddling at Lake Itasca/Itasca state park. All the lakes there are beautiful and clean. Lake Mary in the lake is a little gem that doesnt seem to get a ton of use but is a great spot to visit. On a good sunny day you can see down 15-20 feet! One other lake I like is Lake Rebecca in Hastings. Its a small lake but has great fishing and is a nice little paddle. Not much for motor boats and if there are they generally are not going fast as the lake is not that big. Sorry I dont have much for go to lakes in central MN... Lake Pomroy just out of Hinkley is a good one! Must haves for kayaking, aside from the obvious life jacket, paddles (cold water a dry suit or at least be really careful) A decent camera would be nice. It always seems there is something worth taking a picture of. Maybe a blue tooth speaker for some tunes? It really depends on what you want to do while you are out there. I hope you enjoy it, let me know how it goes!

The reason your rainfly sags when you get in the hammock is because you have it hung wrong. You want to hang the straps at a 30 degree angle. If you do that your fly won't sag when installed on the hammock ropes. Unlike other hammocks you don't want to pull the hennessy hammock tight when setting it up.
